Sofia Vergara became visibly irritated during a recent live TV interview, in which she repeatedly shut down the male interviewer.
The Modern Family star, 51, featured on the Spanish program El Hormiguero, hosted by local broadcaster Pablo Motos, to discuss her upcoming Netflix series Griselda, in which she plays real life figure Griselda Blanco, a Colombian drug cartel leader who became known as the ‘Godmother’ of the underworld from the ‘70s.
But Motos’ line of questioning clearly incensed the multi-award winning actress, who at one point, heckled the interviewer by asking, “How many Emmy nominations do you have in the United States?”
Speaking in Spanish, Vergara was discussing her role as Gloria Pritchett in the smash hit comedy sitcom Modern Family, when Motos poked fun at how she pronounced the title of the series.
“How do you say Modern Family?” he asked in jest, before imitating the Colombian star’s accent.
“I say it wrong? Oh, because you speak better English than me?” a deadpan Vergara questioned.
She continued, “How many Emmy nominations do you have in the United States? How many times did they nominate you at the Golden Globes?”
For reference, Vergara was the highest paid actress at several points during the show’s 11-season run, and was nominated for four Globes and four Emmys.
Motos, 58, had gotten Vergara off-side earlier in the chat when he made seemingly unnecessary comments about her appearance, speculating that both her hair and eyelashes were fake.
“I guess it’s a lie that you are a natural blonde,” he stated, referencing a photo of Vergara when she was younger in which she had darker hair. “The hair you have now. Is it dyed or natural?”
Vergara replied, “It’s mine. I was 20 years old, now I’m 51 years old … What do you want? You were born with your hair that colour? Did you dye it?,” she launched back.
The popular broadcaster also suffered a major faux pas when discussing Griselda, referring to Vergara’s character name incorrectly despite claiming he’d watched the entire series.
“She really wasn’t named Griselda ‘Marcos’, she was named Griselda ‘Blanco’,” Vergara clarified.
“But because you saw the entire series … I knew I was going to catch you.”
Vergara’s highly-anticipated role in Griselda, which hits streaming later this month, comes amid a turbulent time in the star’s personal life, with the actress having split from her husband of seven years, actor Joe Manganiello, in July.
The pair, previously considered one of Hollywood’s most solid couples, confirmed their divorce in a statement.
“We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives,” the couple said at the time.
Vergara finally opened up about her “very interesting” year in a September interview.

“A lot of changes, a lot of good and craziness and bad things happen and good things happen. You know, what makes life so entertaining and interesting.”
She added she “can’t complain”, adding that she’s “had a great, great time” in 2023.
