The never-ending body-shaming of actor Renee Rapp has provoked a baffled response from women online.
Rapp, 24, is currently everywhere because she is starring as Regina George in the highly anticipated and just released Mean Girls the Musical.
The actor was a shoo-in because she’d already played the role on Broadway in 2019, and she’s been heaped with praise over her performance in the newly released film.
Yet no matter how great her performance was there’s still, nonetheless, a loud conversation about Rapp’s body.
Rapp is no stranger to people focusing on her weight. In a candid interview with The Guardian, she revealed that she’d battled an eating disorder and that was routinely body-shamed during her tenure playing Regina on Broadway.
She explained that the production team would say some “vile” things about her body to the point that her parents flew to New York City to check on her.
Yet the comments about Rapp have not seemed to die down with some people online declaring she’s too “fat” to play the Mean Girls villain.
Rapp has indicated that she finds it exhausting having people constantly discuss her weight.
He also thinks the conversation around her body is “stupid” and says people are wrongly “obsessed” with it.
“It definitely hurts my feelings on a certain level, like, I won’t say, it doesn’t bother me, I think it’s harmful, I think it is stupid and I think it is ignorant,” she explained.
While Rapp’s never given out her exact measurements or what dress size she wears, it’s clear she’s a woman who fits into standard sizing and yet the body-shaming is rife
Rapp isn’t the only one annoyed about the constant scrutiny surrounding her weight. Women on the internet are unimpressed about the fact Rapp’s body has become such a talking point.
One woman said she was “confused” about why people were calling Rapp fat when she wasn’t.
Another wrote that he was “baffled” that Rapp was being fat-shamed because no one should have the right to comment on anyone’s body. They added that the actor is simply a normal size that isn’t worth commenting on.
Another said that the conversation surrounding Rapp’s body proves that society has failed women.
“Society has failed if people think Reneé Rapp is fat. She is just a mid-size girly; she must be like a UK size 12, which is just an average size for a girl! Why do we live in a world where people think size 12 is too big? When I say people, I mean men,” one asked.
Another woman said that if Rapp was considered “fat”, it made her question how people would define her body.
