Kaley Cuoco shares sad career news - news.com.au

Kaley Cuoco’s The Flight Attendant will not be returning for Season 3.

The popular dark dramedy series based on the Chris Bohjalian novel of the same name, has been cancelled by Max after two seasons, reports Decider.

“What started out as an attention-grabbing book cover quickly evolved into an extraordinary flight of a lifetime,” said Cuoco in a statement Friday.

“I always envisioned TFA as a limited series and thanks to an incredible creative team, we were able to deliver two thrilling seasons. Personally, playing Cassie has been a dream come true and I am so grateful for everyone who played a part in bringing this extremely original series to life.”

Series creator Steve Yockey added, “The Flight Attendant was a true passion project and the reception from viewers and critics alike was pretty stunning. Our unorthodox spectacle of a show really found people. As we all move on to new projects, those two seasons of television and the incredible team of professionals behind them will always stay at the top of my list.”

The Flight Attendant, which debuted in November 2020 and airs locally on BINGE, centred on an alcoholic stewardess named Cassie Bowden (Cuoco) whose life changes after she finds a dead man in her hotel room with no recollection of what happened.

Season 1 was based on Bohjalian’s book and could have possibly only been a limited series if it weren’t for its massive success. Season 2, which debuted in April 2022, wasn’t based on a book and saw Cassie working with the CIA on a different case.

The series was nominated for several Emmys throughout its run, including Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and Best Comedy Series.

Showrunners Yockey and Natalie Chaidez spoke to Entertainment Weekly in May and shared some of the ideas they had for a potential third season, though they said they felt comfortable concluding the series with any of the season finales.

“Our plan has always been that each season would be its own stand-alone Cassie Bowden-as-the-flight-attendant adventure,” said Yockey.

“Emotional stories would continue, but it would be a case with a beginning, middle, and an end. So I feel like the season finale of season 1 could have been a series finale. I feel like this could also serve as a series finale. We feel like Cassie’s in a good place.”

There has been no mention of whether or not the series will be shopped to other networks or platforms.
