Black Panther actress Carrie Bernans was left badly injured following a hit-and-run accident in New York City on January 1.

The actress and stuntwoman, 29, was hurt after a driver crashed into an outdoor area at the Chirp restaurant around 1.30am, reports New York Post.

Bernans is currently in stable condition and recovering in the hospital after suffering several broken bones, fractures and chipped teeth.

Her rep confirmed to People that Bernans’ young child was not with her at the time.

The incident occurred amid a police foot chase after officers were informed of a physical assault involving the 44-year-old male driver of a black Mercedes and a 34-year-old female passenger.

Police tried “to de-escalate the situation” and ordered the man to put his Mercedes into park.

However, he resisted and kept on driving, turning right onto 7th Avenue.

Once he reached westbound 34th St., he smashed into a food cart and ploughed into “two 39-year-old female pedestrians, a 31-year-old female pedestrian and a 29-year-old female pedestrian.”

Two policemen were also injured, as well as the car’s female passenger.

The driver then “mounted kerb onto the sidewalk again” and hit two parked cars.

“Officers were then able to remove the operator and place him into custody,” the police said.

The perpetrator was sent to Bellevue Hospital and is in critical condition while the other injured victims were transferred to NYC hospitals.

An investigation is currently ongoing after the accident.

Bernans’ mum, Patricia, shared the news and graphic photos of her daughter in a medical facility, on her Instagram.

“Please keep Carrie in your thoughts and prayers. She’s in so much pain but healing. She was involved in a traumatic incident in NYC where a man, early 40s was trying to escape a hit and run,” she penned alongside the images of the horrific ordeal.

She claimed that the trauma “knocked [her daughter] unconscious” and occurred while Bernans and her friend were walking by the food stand.

“Amidst the chaos of the New Year’s incident, she’s holding onto an immense sense of gratitude for life itself,” Patricia added.
