The world’s biggest skivvy-wearing children’s band know when they’re onto a good thing.
After scoring themselves the Biggest Like A Version of 2021 (by a landslide) with their Fruit-Salad-Yummy-Yummy-fication of Tame Impala’s ‘Elephant’, The Wiggles are going all out with a covers album called ReWiggled.
ReWiggled is a double album that will see the current Wiggles line-up teaming up with ‘OG Wiggles’ (Murray Cook, Jeff Fatt and Greg Page), as well as a festival line-up's worth of awesome Australian artists.
Side one features Wiggles classics reinterpreted by the likes of (*deep breath*) Spacey Jane, The Chats, Stella Donnelly, San Cisco, Luca Brasi, Emma Donovan & The Putbacks, Emily Wurramara, Dami Im, Donny Benet, Custard, Melbourne Ska Orchestra. Plus, DZ Deathrays and Polish Club (who are both joining the OG Wiggles on tour next year).
If that wasn’t enough to get your fingers a-wagging, side two sees The Wiggles covering some of absolute all-timers, including AC/DC’s ‘Thunderstruck, Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, Fatboy Slim’s ‘Praise You’, plus everyone from Rhianna to The Rolling Stones and many more.
ReWiggled isn’t out until 11 March, 2022. But as a taster, a 5-track preview EP has been released today (15 December).
Dig into The Wiggles’ take on the schnitty anthem to end all schnitty anthems, The Chats’ ‘Pub Feed’, and the shed-rockers returning the favour with their cover of ‘Can You (Point Your Fingers and Do The Twist?).
The full EP also features Spacey Jane’s reworking ‘D.O.R.O.T.H.Y. (My Favourite Dinosaur)’ with their sun-soaked guitars. On their selection of the track, the Freo faves said:
"First and foremost, we've accidentally stumbled upon Peppa's insanely good Dorothy impressions, and the ad-libs really gave her space to shine.
"It was easy to re-interpret the song and comfortably make it sound like something we'd release, and we had an absolute blast putting it together in the studio. Honestly, wouldn't be surprised if we play it live at least once or twice...”
Take spin below, along with a ReWiggled album trailer. Toot, toot, chugga, chugga!
Arriving in 2022 to coincide with The Wiggles' 30th anniversary celebrations, the covers double album is actually an update of a 2011 tribute album, also titled ReWiggled.
The compilation featured Wiggles songs re-interpreted by The Living End, Washington, Jebediah, Spiderbait, Sarah Blasko, Frenzal Rhomb and more.
