And Just Like That finally premieres with shocking death of lead character - NEWS.com.au

The Sex and the City reboot has finally dropped its first two episodes with the shock death of a main character. Warning: Spoilers.

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for the first two episodes of And Just Like That, ‘Hello It’s Me’ and ‘Little Black Dress’

The Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That finally dropped its first two episodes on Binge tonight and a main character has been killed off in shocking scenes.

This is your last warning, spoilers are ahead.

Despite speculative reports that Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mr Big (Chris Noth) were getting a divorce in the revival, it turns out the outcome is far worse for diehard fans of the ‘90s series.

Toward the end of the first episode, after attending a piano recital for Charlotte’s (Kristin Davis) daughter, Carrie returns home to Big when she finds him lying on the floor of the bathroom after doing a spin cycle workout.

She screams as she runs toward him and attempts to revive him, but he’s lifeless.

“And just like that, Big died,” Carrie says on the voiceover as the credits roll.

Carrie and Big have been the legendary HBO series’ pin-up love story since the very first episode of the sitcom aired back in 1998, and this is a devastating plot twist for those who have followed their oft-tumultuous journey.

Viewers quickly took to social media to express their sheer distress over the revelation:

It’s revealed in the following episode that Big was battling a heart condition, while Carrie manages to hold it together to plan a funeral service.

Elsewhere, the debut episode also addressed Kim Cattrall’s controversial exit in rather brutal fashion.

Cattrall neglected to return as Samantha Jones for the reboot amid a widely reported falling out with Parker.

And little was done to dispel those reports after it was revealed in the opening minutes that her man-eating character had fallen out with Carrie.

The trio are attending lunch when they’re asked by an old friend, “Where’s the fourth musketeer? Where’s Samantha?”

An awkward looking Charlotte says, “She’s no longer with us. No no no, not like that. I mean she’s no longer with us.”

Carrie adds, “She’s in London.”

Just when you think that’s the only time they’ll mention it, Carrie and Miranda have a conversation later about how it “feels like (Samantha’s) dead.”

Miranda says, “We never even talk about her.”

Then, Carrie spills the cosmo.

“Well what is there to say? I told her that because of what the book business is now it didn’t make sense for me to keep her on as a publicist, she said ‘fine’ and then fired me as a friend. And she stopped returning my calls.”

Miranda defends Samantha, saying her “pride got damaged.”

“Which is why I kept leaving her voicemails for her to please call me back so we could talk about it and fix it. I understand she was upset but I thought I was more to her than an ATM,” Carrie adds.

“I always thought the four of us would be friends forever.”

So there you have it. The iconic friends have officially fallen out onscreen too. But thankfully, and in a much more redeeming moment for a character so universally loved, Samantha sends flowers to Carrie after Big’s death.

We also see the late Willie Garson as Carrie’s best friend Stanford Blatch in both episodes. Garson died suddenly halfway through filming in September and it’s not yet been revealed how he’ll be written out.

Miranda and Charlotte are still with their respective spouses, Steve Brady (David Eigenberg), and Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler).

The series has had quite a few modern upgrades from its ‘90s roots, with Carrie now a podcast host and Instagram user, but the personalities are still true to form.

That is, apart from the SATC children who are all grown up now. Remember Miranda’s son, Brady?

“I stepped on a used condom in Brady’s bedroom this morning,” Miranda tells the girls at brunch. And just like that, we feel old.
