Today co-host Allison Langdon has opened up about the “pretty horrible” injury she suffered while filming a segment for the show.
Langdon was injured while shooting a hydrofoiling segment on the Gold Coast in February.
Speaking to Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa today, Langdon said she didn't think the injury was that serious at first.
“They (the hydrofoiling staff) came over and I said to them, ‘I think I’ve done my kneecap,’” Langdon said on Nova. “They said, ‘Well, we can’t see it so that’s a fair assessment.’
“I thought it was just the kneecap so they’d called an ambulance and I was like, ‘It feels like it’s overkill to call an ambulance for a kneecap,’ so I made them cancel it and put me in the back of someone’s car.”
It was a request that Langdon came to regret.
“It was two-and-a-half hours before I got any real drugs and I really, really wished I’d got the ambulance,” she said.
When asked to detail her injuries, Langdon said she “snapped the leg”, “shattered the kneecap” and did her posterior cruciate ligament and meniscus.
“It was pretty horrible,” she said.
The Channel 9 star is still “very sore” and said she “can’t do anything at home” yet.
“It’s still about nine to 12 months away,” she said about her full recovery. “But the hospital bed at our house has gone, the little chair in the shower has gone.”
Given that Langdon was injured while at work, Wippa joked: “That Channel 9 settlement, that’s over a million dollars?”
“Ah … yeah, I can’t discuss,” Langdon replied.
After more than a month off, Langdon returned to the Today show in March.
