Big Brother’s final five is chosen after intensely emotional eviction - NEWS.com.au

After what feels like 18 long, slow years, Big Brother is finally nearing the pointy end, which means the episodes are filled with intense moments, teary farewells and emotional monologues.

Booooooring.

It’s the last week in the Big Brother mansion and each contestant has reached peak levels of paranoia. Particularly Ari, who has had a late-game change of heart and is now treating it as seriously as Danny after weeks of taking the piss out of the other bozos in the house.

It’s a deeply disappointing turn of events given Ari’s constant sh*t talking, pot stirring and eye rolling was one of the only reasons most of us hadn’t tuned out yet.

Six housemates remain after Adriana was kicked out last night, and the nearing taste of victory is making everybody randomly burst into tears at any given moment. It’s a lot.

Especially Danny, who spends most of this episode red-eyed and weepy, which is only slightly better than loudly chewing and spitting food all over his fellow competitors.

We open to Ari sneaking around the house trying to listen in on everyone’s conversations, convinced he’s being conspired against by Sid, Marley and Danny.

His paranoia tips further when he approaches the trio outside during a strategic trip to the rubbish bin to discover their conversation had come to an abrupt end.

He’s instantly suspicious, failing to realise it’s purely because Sid, Marley and Danny have very little in common as a group and had run out of sweeping remarks about being in the top six to keep their “conversation” going.

It’s second chance week, which means each episode features not one but TWO complicated made up games with confusing rules. Hoorah!

The housemates head in to Big Brother’s basement for the first group challenge, which involves tiny balls and chicken wire and a lot of frustrated swearing.

It’s a challenge designed for people with small fingers and patience, so Christina wins, and everyone else looks about ready to go full Hulk-mode and rip the chicken wire contraptions down with their bare hands.

She puts up Danny, Sid and Ari for eviction. Ari instantly breaks down in tears

They face a second nonsensical challenge. I tune in long enough to catch a few of Danny’s finest angry facial expressions before contemplating buying one of those giant wearable blankets from a targeted Instagram ad.

(Am I an Oodie person? Or will the novelty wear off? Questions of such gravity must be saved for another time.)

Danny wins the challenge and cries with pride.

It means either Ari (my faux bestie) or Sid (my very first Big Brother crush) will be going home. I’m torn.

Given Marley has sworn to protect Sid, and Danny is determined to get rid of him, the vote rests on SJ’s shoulders.

The pressure causes her to cry. Soon enough everybody’s crying. This episode is nothing but tears and paranoia, which sounds like the title of a My Chemical Romance song.

In the eviction zone Sonia greets them all with a chirpy hello. I’m just excited to see someone with a dry face for the first time this episode.

Ari and Sid (both crying, not to divert from tonight’s theme) launch into their emotional pitches, with Sid passionately citing representation for immigrants in Australia as his reason for wanting to make it to the grand final.

Ari lays bare his complex with not being perceived as “nice enough” and breaks down in sobs saying that he doesn’t think anyone likes him. As a middle child I can relate.

His confession moves the other contestants and he’s saved.

Sid hugs everyone and wishes them well, walking out with a smile and vowing to catch up with them all outside the house.

It’s a stark contrast from Ari’s eviction last week, which saw him furiously storm out without saying goodbye to anyone.

But he’s a changed man now.

We want the old Ari back.
