Betty White, beloved Golden Girls actor and comedian, dies at 99 - Sydney Morning Herald

By Bill Trott

Comedic actress Betty White, who capped a career of more than 80 years by becoming America’s geriatric sweetheart after Emmy-winning roles on television sitcoms The Golden Girls and The Mary Tyler Moore Show, has died, less than three weeks shy of her 100th birthday.

Her agent and close friend Jeff Witjas told People magazine on Friday (US time): “Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever.”

In a youth-driven entertainment industry where an actress over 40 is facing career twilight, White was an elderly anomaly who was a star in her 60s and a pop culture phenomenon in her 80s and 90s.

Playing on her imminent likability, White was still starring in a TV sitcom, Hot in Cleveland, at age 92 until it was cancelled in late 2014.

White said her longevity was a result of good health, good fortune and loving her work.

“It’s incredible that I’m still in this business and that you are still putting up with me,” White said in an appearance at the 2018 Emmy Awards ceremony, where she was honoured for her long career. “It’s incredible that you can stay in a career this long and still have people put up with you. I wish they did that at home.”

“It’s incredible that I’m still in this business,” White said in 2018.

White was not afraid to mock herself and throw out a joke about her sex life or a snarky crack that one would not expect from a sweet-smiling, white-haired elderly woman. She was frequently asked if, after such a long career, there was anything she still wanted to do and the standard response was: “Robert Redford.”

“Old age hasn’t diminished her,” the New York Times wrote in 2013. “It has given her a second wind.”

Betty Marion White was born on January 17, 1922, in Oak Park, Illinois, and her family moved to Los Angeles during the Great Depression, where she attended Beverly Hills High School.

White started her entertainment career in radio in the late 1930s and by 1939 had made her TV debut singing on an experimental channel in Los Angeles. After serving in the American Women’s Voluntary Service, which helped the US effort during World War Two, she was a regular on Hollywood on Television, a daily five-hour live variety show, in 1949.

A few years later she became a pioneering woman in television by co-founding a production company and serving as a co-creator, producer and star of the 1950s sitcom Life With Elizabeth.

Through the 1960s and early ’70s White was seen regularly on television, hosting coverage of the annual Tournament of Rose Parade and appearing on game shows such as Match Game and Password. She married Password host Allen Ludden, her third and final husband, in 1963.

White reached a new level of success on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, playing the host of a home-making television show, the snide, lusty Sue Ann Nivens, whose credo was “a woman who does a good job in the kitchen is sure to reap her rewards in other parts of the house.” White won best-supporting actress Emmys for the role in 1975 and 1976.

She won another Emmy in 1986 for The Golden Girls, a sitcom about four older women living together in Miami that featured an age demographic rarely highlighted on American television. White also was nominated for an Emmy six other times for her portrayal of the widowed Rose Nylund, a sweet, naive and ditzy Midwesterner, on the show, which ran from 1985 to 1992 and was one of the top-rated series of its time.

After a less successful sequel to The Golden Girls came a series of small movie parts, talk-show appearances and one-off television roles, including one that won her an Emmy for a guest appearance on The John Larroquette Show.

By 2009 she was becoming ubiquitous with more frequent television appearances and a role in the Sandra Bullock film The Proposal. She starred in a popular Snickers commercial that aired during the Super Bowl, taking a brutal hit in a mud puddle in a football game.

A young fan started a Facebook campaign to have White host Saturday Night Live and she ended up appearing in every sketch on the show and winning still another Emmy for it.

The Associated Press voted her entertainer of the year in 2010 and a 2011 Reuters/Ipsos poll found that White, then 89, was the most popular and trusted celebrity in America with an 86 percent favourability rating.

White’s witty and brassy demeanour came in handy as host of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers, a hidden-camera show in which elderly actors pulled pranks on younger people.

“Who would ever dream that I would not only be this healthy, but still be invited to work?” White said in a 2015 interview with Oprah Winfrey. “That’s the privilege ... to still have jobs to do is such a privilege.”

White, who had no children, worked for animal causes. She once turned down a role in the movie As Good as It Gets because of a scene in which a dog was thrown in a garbage chute.

Sharon Osbourne’s son’s surprise engagement - NEWS.com.au

Jack Osbourne will soon be a groom once more, after the father of three announced his engagement to interior designer Aree Gearhart.

He’s running on the rails of the Aree train.

Jack Osbourne will soon be a groom once more, as the father of three is now engaged to interior designer Aree Gearhart, the NY Post reports.

“Today I asked the most beautiful and loving woman I’ve ever met to marry me,” Osbourne, 36, revealed on Instagram Thursday. “She said yes!”

“Life is a series of doors and I’m so excited to walk through this one with her,” he went on.

“She’s truly a magical being with a heart bigger than anything I could have imagined. Her step-mom skills make my heart so full. I couldn’t be happier than I am right now.”

The note accompanied a photo of the couple bundled up together in a wintry clime as Gearhart rests her left hand on Osbourne’s chest to showcase her engagement ring.

Gearhart shared the same photo on her Instagram page, alongside the caption, “today my best friend asked me to marry him in a magical winter wonderland. i’ll love you forever and then some @jackosbourne. my soulmate, my adventure partner, my protector. i’m ready for forever w you + our tribe.”

The couple has been dating since 2019, beginning their courtship following the finalisation of Osbourne’s divorce from ex-wife Lisa Stelly, with whom he shares daughters Pearl, 9, Andy, 6 and 3-year-old Minnie.

Stelly and Osbourne lasted six years before calling it quits.

News of Osbourne’s engagement comes seven months after the former reality star celebrated a laudable 18 years of sobriety.

“It’s not that it gets easier or harder, It’s just that it’s life on life’s terms. If anyone is trying to get sober, know that it possible if you are willing to do the work,” Jack captioned an Instagram snapshot showing the breakdown of his Twelve Steps app at the time.

“Sending lots of love to my people who have been on this journey with me. #sobersbetter.”

Radcliffe’s wealth soars by tens of millions - NEWS.com.au

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has had a magical year with money, and has shared some of the secrets behind his success.

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has had a magic year with money — as his investment portfolio soared by an extra £10 million (AU$18.5 million).

The actor’s firm is now worth £89.2 million (AU$167 million), after he ploughed cash into art, rare books, stocks and property.

Radcliffe, 32, spreads his outlays with the help of a team including parents Marcia and Alan, The Sun reports.

Radcliffe, who last played Harry in 2011, is a fan of authors including Ernest Hemingway and Salman Rushdie and likes to buy first-editions.

He has also snapped up works by artists including Damien Hirst and Craigie Aitchison.

Accounts filed this month by Gilmore Jacobs Ltd, of which Daniel owns just under half the shares, also show it has £3.1m in property, plus £10.3m of cash reserves.

He told how his money is handled by advisers “who understand finances a lot more than me”.

The star, 12 when the first Potter film was released, told Forbes magazine: “I was obviously very fortunate financially from very, very early on.

“When you’re young you’re obviously not going to be handling it then, it would be something that would just overwhelm.”

Radcliffe joined up with co-stars including Emma Watson and Rupert Grint for a Harry Potter reunion show recently.

Watson, who played Hermione Granger, said she felt “quite overwhelmed” as “some of us haven’t seen each other for years”.

She added: “I’ve just been quite pleasantly surprised by getting to relive it all.”

Filming on the project commenced last month on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane, before moving to The Whitsundays shortly afterwards.

It was revealed back in March that Julia and co-star George Clooney were heading to Australia to film the hotly anticipated project.

The film received a $6.4million grant from the federal government's Location Incentive Program.

George, 60, and Julia play a divorced couple who travel to Bali in a desperate bid to stop their daughter, played by Kaitlyn Dever, from getting married.

The movie also stars Billie Lourd as Dever's best friend, who travels with her to Bali, where she decides to marry a local.

The two-month project will be filmed entirely in Queensland, with the picturesque Whitsundays doubling for Bali.

The production is expected to generate $47million for the Australian economy and create more than 270 jobs.

Harry Potter actor’s secret crush on co-star - NEWS.com.au

As the Harry Potter reunion approaches, some of the stars have revealed their on-set crushes. One main character wrote a gushing note.

The stars of the Harry Potter movies have reunited – and revealed the secret crushes they had on their fellow actors while making the huge box office hits.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have spoken about what went on behind the scenes as they celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of the first film in the franchise.

Daniel, who debuted as the boy wizard in Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone, said: “I feel so lucky to be where I am and have the life that I have.

“But none of that is possible without Harry Potter. It was a very good ten years.”

Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Robbie Coltrane and Gary Oldman are among the other stars who appear in reunion show Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts.

But JK Rowling, who created the Potter world with her best-selling books, features for less than 30 seconds during the 155-minute special.

The author, who has fallen out of favour with some after sharing her views on transgender issues, is mentioned only fleetingly by the films’ directors and cast.

Instead of being interviewed on the show, 56-year-old JK appears in short films made in 2019 for the Warner Bros Studio Tour.

She says in one clip: “I have found it an extraordinary world to be involved with.”

JK aside, the special looks at every element of the production, from the hunt for actors to play Harry, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger and the creation of the film’s sets.

And the cast reveal behind-the-scenes secrets from the movie — shot in Warner Bros’ studio in Leavesden, Herts. Daniel admits he had a crush on Helena Bonham Carter, now 55, who played Bellatrix Lestrange.

Reading out a note he once sent to the actor, he says: “Dear HBC, it was a pleasure being your co-star and coaster in the fact I always ended up holding your coffee. “I do love you and I wish I’d just been born ten years earlier so I might’ve been in with a chance.”

And he wasn’t the only one who liked a fellow cast member. Actor Matthew Lewis, 32, who played Neville Longbottom, says: “There were endless crushes, people were going out with each other, breaking up.”

Daniel added: “We were all hormonal teenagers, so when in (fourth Harry Potter film) The Goblet Of Fire they brought in a whole bunch of new people for the Triwizard Tournament who were purposefully hot, well … ”

Emma, 31, had a crush on Draco Malfoy actor Tom Felton, 34, while she was playing Hermione — and still holds a candle for him.

Recalling one of their school lessons on set, she explains: “The assignment we were given was to draw what you thought God looked like. Tom had drawn a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard and at that moment I fell in love with him.

“I used to come in every day and look at the call sheet, and if he was on it, it was an extra exciting day.”

And touching on her struggles with fame, she added: “Tom was the one I could be more vulnerable with. Nothing has ever happened romantically with us. We just love each other and that’s all I can say.”

Emma was just 11 when The Philosopher’s Stone was released. Daniel was 12 and Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley, was 13.

The global fame almost proved to be too much for Emma — and she came close to quitting in 2006. David Yates, who directed four Potter movies, explains how he had heard she was not sure she wanted to start filming the fifth film, The Order Of The Phoenix.

And Tom said: “Daniel and Rupert had each other and I had my cronies. But Emma was not only younger, she was by herself.”

Emma says: “I did find a diary entry from that time. There were times that I felt very lonely. I think I was scared. I felt like, this is forever now. The fame thing had finally hit home in a big way.”

Daniel added: “We never talked about it ’cos we were just kids. As a 14-year-old, I was never going to turn round and say to another 14-year-old, ‘Hey, are you OK?’”

And Rupert, 33, said: “I also contemplated what life would be like if I called it a day.”

The support of Harry Potter fans helped Emma to stay on board until the final film, The Deathly Hallows Part II, was released in July 2011.

But the struggles went on, with all three of the child stars admitting they found the later movies tough. Rupert said: “I lost track of who I was and who the character was. I didn’t really know where they ended or began.

“Even my name didn’t feel like my name.” Daniel agreed:

“Yes, like who I am and what do I like to do and what is important to me.”

But it wasn’t all misery, with the trio recalling some of the hilarious and dramatic moments that never made it to film.

Emma revealed the child cast were all covered in bruises because they were “obsessed” with paying Slaps — where two players try to avoid getting whacked on the back of their hands.

And Daniel recalled a day on set that could have ended in disaster.

He said: “The candles hanging from the roof of the Great Hall, one day they were burning through the ropes that had them hanging there. So much of that would be special effects now.”

On another occasion some damage really was done — Goblet Of Fire director Mike Newell ended up with several cracked ribs after a fight on set went wrong.

The accident happened as twins James and Oliver Phelps, who played Fred and George Weasley, were filming a scuffle.

James, 35, revealed: “Mike said, ‘No, no, no. This is a fight — really go for it’. So he stepped in and fought me.” Mike said: “I was a tubby 60-year-old gent, so I really shouldn’t have done it — and then I ended up with cracked ribs.”

Lucius Malfoy actor Jason Isaacs remembers how he injured his on-screen son Draco, played by Tom, in a scene that was later deleted.

Jason, 58, said: “I used this cane to whack his hand but I didn’t know how sharp the teeth on it were and they went into his hands.

“He looked up to me with tears in his eyes. Then he said, ‘It’s OK, it’s good for the scene’.”

Tom said: “He’d be this evil father then ‘Cut!’ And he’d give you a cuddle and say, ‘Did it hit you too hard?’ Very Jekyll and Hyde, that one!”

A touching sequence in the TV special honours the acting legends from the Potter films who are no longer with us — Alan Rickman, who played Severus Snape, an actor Richard Harris and Helen McCrory (Narcissa Malfoy).

The cast say they are all now family — and the show ends with their love letters to the saga.

Wiping away a tear, Hagrid actor Robbie Coltrane, 71, said: “My children have grown up while I did this. My children’s generation will show it to their children’s generation, so you could be watching it in 30 years’ time.”

Emma added: “On the last day of filming I just remember all of us holding each other, all three of us were utterly devastated.”

And Daniel said: “Every part of my life is connected to Potter. My first kiss is connected to someone here, my first girlfriends were here.
“It all spirals out from Harry Potter.”

‘F**k you’: Britney’s music-making bombshell - NEWS.com.au

Fans eagerly awaiting for the pop princess to make new music will be waiting a while after she revealed why she is taking a step back.

Britney Spears is a singer, songwriter and dancer, with a tremendous fan base worldwide.

But the international star has spoken about her decision to step back from music and bluntly said her decision is “my way of saying, ‘F**k You’.”

Britney took some of her deep thoughts to the internet on Monday to let her fans know where she is at in terms of her singing career, The Sun reports.

And based on what she said, it looks like fans will have to wait for the popstar to release her next hit.

In an Instagram post, Britney shared a series of photos with the first slide saying: “When you wake up. PRAY.”

The second slide said: “When life gets hard. PRAY.”

The third slide said: “If you’re unsure. PRAY.”

The fourth slide said: “When you’re happy. PRAY.”

The fifth slide said: “God’s always with us.”

The last three slides, Britney wrote an essay spilling her heart and emotions out.

She said: “I asked for 13 years to perform new songs and remixes of my old songs … and every time I asked I was told ‘No…!!!!!’”

“It was a set up to make me fail,” she added.

“I guess it seems odd to most now why I don’t even do my music anymore … that’s just the surface issues.

“People have no idea the awful things that were done to me personally … and after what I’ve been through, I’m scared of people and the business!!!!”

“Not doing my music anymore is my way of saying ‘F**k You’ in a sense when it only actually benefits my family by ignoring my real work.”

How is the internet reacting to Britney Spears’ post?

The comment section of her Instagram post is flooded with kind words and supportive advice.

“Britney, this is why the world loves you. You’re Britney F*****g Spears, but you have insecurities — people feel they can relate to you on that level,” one fan wrote.

“You say you aren’t superwoman but with the pain you endured, it’s a feat that you seem to be even remotely positive or happy. I put myself in your shoes and I would not be as resilient as you have been.”

“Thanks for sharing, Britney. This is so personal and real,” wrote another. ️

A third person said: “We are with you queen, heal and enjoy, your queendom is awaiting for you, ️” while a fourth added: “You don’t owe anyone an explanation. No one has experienced your trauma but you and only you know how you heal and what’s best for you. ️”

Did Britney Spears tease new music recently?

Britney sang live and teased new music but warned her family, “I won’t forget what you did to me,” after her conservatorship ended.

This came after Britney’s dad, Jamie, demanded her to pay for his $1.2K-an-hour lawyer despite him being removed as her conservator.

Britney also sang her heart out in a video she posted to her Instagram.

She taped herself singing using her phone in a bathroom mirror.

Britney wrote a long caption to her post and said: “I just realised this today guys … after what my family tried to do to me three years ago … I needed to be my own cheerleader …”

Star’s Covid party ‘worth almost dying for’ - NEWS.com.au

This reality star’s Christmas party turned into a super-spreader event that nearly killed him – but he insists it was worth it.

US reality star Jeff Lewis hosted a “super spreader” event that he says was almost “worth dying for.”

The star of reality series Flipping Out star revealed on his SiriusXM radio show on Monday that he spent the holidays recovering from COVID-19 after he threw a party for his employees, Page Six reports.

“That was an epic party. It was so worth almost dying for,” Lewis, 51, said of the December 21 bash, which resulted in several of his colleagues contracting the coronavirus.

Lewis went on to explain that co-host Megan Weaver, assistant Shane Douglas, actress Monika Casey and Shahs of Sunset star Mercedeh Javid Feight all became ill after attending the event, along with his and on-again, off-again boyfriend Scott Anderson.

“Thursday is when everyone started testing positive,” Lewis explained, revealing that “a third” of the attendees ended up getting COVID-19.

“We also have people with symptoms who haven’t been tested yet. I don’t regret [it], by the way,” he added. “People are saying we’re reckless and stupid. No, we’re not, f**kers. We were all vaccinated and we had a nurse there testing all of us before we even went in the door. I thought we were being responsible.”

Lewis then went on to detail his “really bad” experience with COVID-19 over Christmas.

“Christmas Eve, I tested negative, so I went to my family’s Christmas Eve dinner,” he shared. “I did wear a mask and I stayed distanced … then I started feeling sick at dinner. I went home early.”

Lewis said he was “in pretty bad shape” the following day.

“My fever went up to 103.8. Scottie took a bowl of ice water and was putting cloths on my body to try to bring the temperature down,” he recalled. “I was a little delirious and I told him, ‘I think you’re going to wake up tomorrow and I’m going to be dead.’”

Lewis confirmed that for the time being, he will continue distancing himself from his 5-year-old daughter, Monroe, who has been staying with her other dad, Gage Edward.

“I don’t want her to get sick, and I also don’t want to take care of her because I don’t have any nannies,” Lewis said, noting that even his housekeepers have COVID-19.

“I’m down to two, and if anything happens to those two, I’m not going to be able to feed myself. I don’t know who is going to be able to take care of me!”

Dallas Buyers Club director Jean-Marc Vallee dies at 58 - Sydney Morning Herald

Jean-Marc Vallee, a Canadian best known for directing the Oscar-nominated film Dallas Buyers Club and Emmy-winning HBO series Big Little Lies, died suddenly at his cabin outside Quebec City. He was 58.

Vallée’s death was reported on Sunday by entertainment website Deadline and confirmed on Twitter by his representative Bumble Ward.

Jean-Marc Vallee’s Hollywood breakthrough came with the 2013 drama Dallas Buyers Club.

“Still in shock over the news that Jean-Marc Vallee has died,” Ward said, adding that he was thoughtful and kind “while still being a creative genius”.

Vallee’s Hollywood breakthrough came with the 2013 AIDS drama Dallas Buyers Club, which won Oscars for actors Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto.

The movie was based on the true story of homophobic drug addict Ron Woodroof, played by McConaughey, who smuggles much-needed but unapproved medication into the United States to distribute to other AIDS patients.

Vallee’s recent win as a director came from HBO series Big Little Lies starring Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep and Zoe Kravitz. The show won eight Emmy awards in 2017.

He directed Demolition, a 2015 drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal, about a New York investment banker coming to grips with his wife’s sudden death.

Vallee had at the time called Demolition his most “rock and roll” film, both for its pulsing soundtrack in a film otherwise punctuated by silence, and its often provocative and offbeat portrayal of grief.

Vallee, who hailed from Montreal, forayed into the features film industry with his 1995 thriller Black List.

He is survived by two sons.

UK police investigate video linked to man arrested at Windsor Castle - ABC News

British police said they were investigating a video linked to a man armed with a crossbow who was arrested at Windsor Castle on Christmas Day.

The video, obtained by The Sun newspaper, appeared to show a masked person in a dark hoodie holding a crossbow and addressing the camera with a distorted voice, saying they wanted to "assassinate" Queen Elizabeth II.

The Sun said the video was sent from the suspect's Snapchat account shortly before he was arrested.

Police said they arrested a 19-year-old man within the grounds of Windsor Castle after a security breach took place on Christmas morning.

Officers found a crossbow after searching the man.

They said the man was suspected of breaching a protected site and possessing an offensive weapon, but that he did not enter any buildings.

Police said the suspect, who has not been named, is in custody under the Mental Health Act and "in the care of medical professionals".

Detectives "are assessing the contents of the video," police said.

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman declined to comment.

The Queen, 95, spent the Christmas holidays at Windsor, west of London, having decided not to stay at Sandringham, the royal estate in eastern England where she traditionally spends the festive season with family.

Question Paul Rudd is sick of hearing - NEWS.com.au

So-called ‘sexiest man alive’ Paul Rudd will happily drop a dad joke on command — but there’s one question he’s presented with often that makes him cringe.

Ageing backwards isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Just ask People magazine’s 2021 ‘sexiest man alive’ Paul Rudd, who admits he finds questions about his age-defying looks a little awkward at times.

Speaking to news.com.au ahead of the Aussie release of Ghostbusters: Afterlifeon Saturday, the 52-year-old Clueless star said he gets “sick of” being probed for skincare tips, revealing there’s really not much to his routine.

“Drink water,” he said holding up an empty glass via Zoom and shrugging.

Rudd stars as affable teacher Gary Grooberson in Covid-delayed Ghostbusters reboot Afterlife, telling news.com.au the gravity of upholding the 1980s film franchise’s legacy certainly wasn’t lost on him.

“All the kids my age, when that movie came out it was a big deal,” the father-of-two said.

“And it’s become for many people a seminal film growing up, so getting to work on it was very cool.”

Kids take centre stage in Afterlife. When a single mother with two kids is forced to move to “a creepy old farmhouse” they inherited from their family patriarch, they quickly discover not only some supernatural goings-on inside, but a treasure trove of strange equipment belonging to their grandfather; one of the original Ghostbusters.

The theme of family lineage continued off-screen, too, with Jason Reitman, the son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, at the helm with his dad’s guidance.

“One of the things that I could never seem to get over was the fact that we’re working on this material and there’s such a connection between the original and this one, and I’d look over at the monitor and see Jason Reitman and his dad, and what Ghostbusters meant to that family, and this lineage,” said Rudd.

“It was almost as if what was happening on screen was actually happening off screen by the video monitors. There was this real special feeling about it.”

High spirits on set were helped along by the attitudes of the buzzing young cast, according to Rudd, particularly with it being one of the film’s main characters, Logan Kim’s, first feature film role.

Kim stars alongside McKenna Grace (Gifted), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Celeste O’Connor (Freaky).

Asked about working with the fresh-faced actors, Rudd said the enthusiasm they brought to set was refreshing.

“I loved hanging out with that kid (Kim), he was so funny and sweet. Every one of those kids.”

He continued: “McKenna was great, she’s brilliant in the movie. Finn I’d seen in Stranger Things, and what a cool kid. Celeste was lovely. They were all so talented, and they really are the heart of this film.

“There was a genuine enthusiasm from all of them for being there and working on this film so you kind of get caught up in that,” he said, adding that between takes he was responsible for a lot of the ‘dad jokes’ on set (“Have you heard about the new pirate film coming out? It’s rated ‘Arghhh’,” he teased of his repertoire).

So is Rudd a believer in the supernatural himself?

“I’ve had some pretty interesting things happen to me in my life,” he said.

“Nothing that had me wishing I had a proton pack or a ghost trap, but there’s a bunch that come to my mind.

“I think there’s a lot of things in the world and in the universe and beyond that we don’t quite understand. I’m a pretty logical and a pretty cynical person so I tend to think there’s an actual scientific explanation for a lot of things. But there are some things that I can’t find an explanation for.”

He went on: “I’ve had experiences where I think, ‘well that was specific. That wasn’t just a general weird phenomenon’. But I don’t want to talk about it because I’ll sound insane,” he joked.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is in Australian cinemas from New Year’s Day, Saturday, January 1, 2022.

Kim K’s daughter shows off new braces - NEWS.com.au

North West has taken to TikTok to show off her new braces just a week after she got in trouble for broadcasting her mum.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s eight-year-old daughter has continued her new habit of documenting her life online by showing thousands of her fans she has braces.

North West has recently created a TikTok account where she posts about her life.

The oldest West sibling was in a car as she recorded the snippet and exclaimed: “Oh, my gosh, I got my braces!”

She pulled her long curly hair back to better show the four links of purple and silver coloured braces.

This post comes a week after she went live on TikTok without her mum’s permission.

First, North filmed from her plush Pink bedroom where she was hanging out with her unnamed friends, before giving a full tour of the $60 million minimalist mansion she calls home.

“We hired this Sing thing,” North says in the clip, referencing an elaborate set-up Kardashian organised at their home to celebrate the release of animated movie Sing 2.

The home is seen adorned with Sing 2 decor and a giant themed stage, as well as an array of festive decorations.

In a separate clip, North bails up the main bedroom where she finds Kardashian lying in her bed aimlessly scrolling on her phone.

“Mum, I’m live!” North announces, before Kardashian scolds her: “No stop, you’re not allowed to.”

Kardashian is heard asking someone, “Is she really going live?” to which the person responds, “I don’t know.”

Cheeky.

Duchess of Cambridge stuns with surprise Christmas piano performance at Westminster Abbey - 7NEWS

Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, is an accomplished woman - but she’s just revealed another string to her bow by revealing a hidden musical talent.

The Duchess made an unexpected appearance at the Christmas Eve carol concert at Westminster Abbey, playing piano accompaniment to pop star Tom Walker as he sang ‘For Those Who Can’t Be Here.’

Wearing a stunning red outfit and framed by an atmospheric candle setting, the Duchess gave a flawless performance.

The concert was filmed earlier this month but only televised on Christmas Eve.

The Duchess took piano lessons as a child and a royal source told People music was “very important” to Kate during the UK’s COVID lockdowns.

“She recognises the powerful way in which music brings people together” during tough times, the source said.

“For these reasons, she was keen to be part of Tom’s performance in this way.”

Walker said she had “completely nailed” the performance.

“It was truly an honour playing alongside The Duchess for Royal Carols: Together at Christmas,” the singer said.

“Without doubt, it was a once in a lifetime experience.

‘She smashed it’

“So I think we were both really nervous that it wasn’t going to go quite to plan and one of us would let down the other person or whatever, but she was absolutely fabulous – she smashed it.

“I thought she absolutely smashed the performance.

“It‘s not easy to just jump behind a piano with a bunch of musicians you’ve never played with before and record live takes to camera, but she completely nailed it.

“She’s such a lovely, kind and warm-hearted person and she took the time to thank everyone personally for the opportunity to play together.”

The performance was kept under wraps until the Duchess took to social media several hours beforehand.

Posting early on Christmas Eve UK time on the Duke and Duchess’s Instagram account, a short video showed Kate sitting at the piano in Westminster Abbey.

‘Smartest’ royal family member named - NEWS.com.au

All the members of the royal family have had their school marks and university careers scrutinised to determine who is the “most intelligent”.

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is the “most intelligent member of the British royal family” according to a new study released by Oxford Royale.

The education company analysed the academic credentials of the blue-blooded family members, looking at their high school results and the rankings of the colleges that they attended.

Oxford Royale used the QS World University Rankings, which rate colleges based on their academic reputation and faculty-to-student ratio, as part of their analysis.

Meghan, 40, took out top spot, given she graduated from the elite Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, The New York Post reported.

The Duchess holds a double degree in theatre and international relations from the prestigious college, which is placed at number 30 on the QS World Rankings for 2021.

A spokesman for Oxford Royale commented on the findings: “Life as a royal isn’t always an easy job and involves a lot of dealing with extensive scrutiny and life in the public spotlight, and Meghan Markle’s academic strengths have equipped her perfectly for this role.

“While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may have resigned from their roles as working royals, they have captured the interest and attention of the world, and Meghan’s desire to use her platform to raise awareness over serious world issues reflects her intelligence, analytical mind and educational pedigree.”

Meanwhile, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, came in as the second most intelligent royal in the study.

Kate, 39, attended high school at the private Marlborough College in Wiltshire, England, where she attained three A-levels in her final year of school. She scored A grades in maths and art, and a B in English.

The A-levels are subjects studied by British students in their final two years of school, and are needed for entrance into college. The better a student scores on an A-level, the more likely they are to be granted entry to an elite university.

She went on to study at the University of St Andrews, which ranks at number 91 on the QS World Rankings.

Prince William was declared the third most intelligent royal, having also studied at St Andrews. However, Kate was considered smarter than the future king, since she outperformed him in the A-level exams.

William scored an A in geography, a B in art and a C in biology during his final year of high school.

William’s brother, Prince Harry, didn’t even make Oxford Royale’s top 10 list. The renegade royal only attained two A-levels in high school; scoring a B in art and D in geography. He did not attend university.

The royal family has not publicly responded to the new study.

Meanwhile, a number of William and Harry’s famous cousins made the top 10 list.

Princess Eugenie ranked in fourth spot, while her sister Princess Beatrice came in at number 10. The Queen’s other grandchildren Peter Phillips and Zara Phillips were placed at numbers five and six respectively.

Meanwhile, Lady Kitty Spencer — who is the niece of Princess Diana — is the only royal in the top 10 with a masters degree.

The 30-year-old holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Cape Town in South Africa, and a masters in luxury brand management from the European Business School in London.

She placed eighth in the study.

2. Kate Middleton, University of St Andrews

3. Prince William, University of St Andrews

4. Princess Eugenie, Newcastle University

5. Peter Phillips, Exeter University

6. Zara Tindall, Exeter University

7. Princess Anne, University of Aberdeen

What It’s Like Having Omicron, As Told By Inspired Unemployed In A Brutal Series Of IG Stories - Pedestrian.TV

Loads of folks have been struck down with the rona, including ya bois The Inspired Unemployed.

The lads have become the Omicron spokespeople that we didn’t know we needed and they’ve been documenting their COVID journey on Instagram.

“Day 4 of Omicron,” they wrote in their first IG Story announcing they’d been hit with the new variant.

“Yep, that’s right. We have finally caught the russ. #notajoke #thecronhouse #chrissy present.”

Their poor faces say it all, don’t they?

Poor buggers!

From then on we have a various assortment of piccies of the blokes and their housemate lying in bed, clearly on struggle street.

For those of us who also have the russ, as they’ve called it, these pics will be all too familiar to ya:

This next one is a little more than I wanted to see, but look, the boys are nothing if not oversharers and we love them for it.

“Also a quick visit to the bowl…” the refreshingly unglamorous blokes captioned this next pic:

A mere hour after he was spotted befriending the toot bowl, he appears to have regained his appetite and here he is having a feed.

“It’s all happening in the cronhouse,” the video was captioned, showing one bloke eating takeaway while another one lays on the floor in agony.

When it was finally time for rest, the bois dove into bed with their face masks on (???) and wrote, “Lights out at the clinic, wish us luck.”

I’m no medical professional, but I feel like sleeping with your mask on is a big no-no. But again, what do I know?

As if things couldn’t get any worse, the next day, one of them has appeared to have copped conjunctivitis, which is another cursed Chrissy gift, innit?

If you haven’t already, head on over and chuck the boys a follow to join them on their journey.

Adblock test (Why?)
