The younger sister of Jaimi Kenny has made a heartbreaking promise after she and the rest of the family gathered on Saturday for the 33-year-old’s funeral.
Morgan Gruell shared a final tribute to the young woman on Instagram on Sunday, praising her sister’s sentimentality and love for all things great and small.
“She saw the beauty in everyone and everything,” the dancer wrote alongside a picture of the sisters.
“I will always remember her taking the time to stop and take a photo of a pretty flower, an interesting door, or her feet standing next to crunchy leaves that had fallen from the trees.
“I promise to always appreciate these things as she did.”
The death of Ms Kenny, the daughter of Olympians Lisa Curry and Grant Kenny, was announced by her parents on Monday, noting she had died after a long term illness, with her family by her side.
Mrs Gruell said the funeral, held at a small chapel on the Sunshine Coast on Saturday, had been decorated with fairy lights and flowers.
“A service fitted for the queen of all things pretty,” she wrote, noting Ms Kenny would have “loved” it.
“We will continue to miss and love you always,” she wrote.
Ms Kenny was carried into the chapel in a white coffin, covered in pink and orange dahlias.
Brother Jett and father Grant Kenny led the pallbearers, and mother Lisa Curry was seen inconsolable as the moving service came to an end.
Ms Curry said the service had been “perfect … beautiful, quiet, pretty and sparkly,” in her own moving tribute on Sunday.
“Our little angel, you can now rest peacefully,” she wrote. “Free of pain, free to flourish and free to grow, free to just be.”
Ms Kenny’s death followed a “lengthy and complex alcohol-related health battle”, and the death of her boyfriend, Lachy Crossley, in 2017 which left her “shattered”, the Courier Mail reported.
Mr Crossley’s mother, Gail, told the paper the couple “had plans to be together forever” before Mr Crossley’s shock death.
“They were a beautiful couple with beautiful souls. Lachy had an infectious laugh and Jaimi just beamed,” she said.
“Jaimi had just moved in and they were living together when Lachy passed.”
