The Block 2020 contestant Harry busted cheating on surveillance camera - NEWS.com.au

One of this season’s Block contestants has earned the nickname “Dirty Harry” from his fellow competitors.

And surveillance camera footage aired during Wednesday night’s episode reveals exactly why they’re so angry with him: While the other teams flew back to their home states for The Block’s five-and-a-half week coronavirus lockdown, Harry repeatedly snuck back onto the construction site to continue working.

While not explicitly against the rules, it was understood contestants would abandon the building site until summoned back by host Scott Cam – and with all other teams living interstate, Harry, who is competing with daughter Tash, was the only contestant with the option to sneak back and continue planning his reno.

Cam had first dobbed Harry in to the rest of the contestants during Monday’s episode as they prepped their return to the construction site.

“You’re going to notice some very big changes – well, everyone except Harry, who was caught sneaking around with a tape measure the other day. Even Tash thought that was shifty!”

The others agreed.

“I’m not cool with that at all,” said Jasmine.

“We were all in quarantine doing the right thing, and for him to go onto The Block … that’s unfair,” said Tam.

And during Wednesday’s episode, another bending of the rules from Harry: He brought his own spray paint gun to use from home.

“So you’re allowed to bring your own tools from home?” a producer asked.

“Yeah well, there was no rules that said you can’t bring your own tools. If no-one’s telling me, I just do it,” he said.

“I don’t know if it’s in the rules. Dirty Harry doesn’t have rules … he makes the rules,” said Tam.

According to Nine, there are 10 key rules contestants on The Block must follow that are not often explicitly discussed on camera. While Harry’s use of his own painting spray gun doesn’t appear to break any of the 10 rules, sneaking on site to measure spaces during an unprecedented lockdown could definitely qualify as “working ahead” and would therefore be breaking the rules.

As per Domain, the rules are:

No help from any outside designer.

All painting must be done by contestants.

All trades must be paid the award rate.

All trades must be inducted.

No more than 50 per cent discount on any trades goods.

No working ahead.

No power tools after tools down.

No power tools on Sunday or public holidays.

Contestants must hire their own trades.

Contestant builders must not work on consecutive seasons of The Block.

The Block continues 7pm Sunday on Nine
