Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have just announced they're expecting their first child together, with the baby due early next year.
Members of the royal family were thrilled by the news, but there's one royal who probably played a major role in the timing of Eugenie's announcement.
It's none other than her sister, Princess Beatrice, who had a special moment of her own recently.
She and now-husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi wed in secret on 17 July – less than two months ago – with Eugenie and Jack included on the tiny 20-person guest list.
Their royal wedding, which had been planned for May, was repeatedly delayed and eventually cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, so it was a shock when the pair announced they had tied the knot in secret.
Now there is speculation that Eugenie held off on announcing her baby news out of respect for her elder sister.
The princesses have always shared a close bond, and after seeing Beatrice's wedding pushed back so many times, it's unlikely Eugenie would have done anything to jeopardise her sister's happy moment.
Not to mention that Eugenie reportedly had another royal announce their pregnancy at her own wedding in 2018.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry allegedly revealed to the royal family that they were expecting on Eugenie's wedding day, leaving the bride feeling upstaged.
In response to the announcement, the Princess reportedly told close friends she "felt the couple should have waited to share the news".
It's understood that Eugenie is at least a few months into her pregnancy, but probably chose to wait to announce the news until well after Beatrice's wedding.
Not wanting to take away from Beatrice and Edoardo's newly wedded bliss, Eugenie and Jack made sure not to steal their moment, waiting until Friday to announce they're expecting.
Eugenie, 30, posted two photos confirming the news on Instagram - one of her holding a pair of fluffy baby booties and a second photo of her with Brooksbank, the parents-to-be beaming.
"Jack and I are so excited for early 2021," the caption read. Eugenie's post came just minutes after Buckingham Palace confirmed the exciting news.
The royal family work hard to make sure they space out major announcements in order to prevent any one royal from overshadowing another.
Of course, they can't always ensure the rest of the world sticks to this royal protocol.
Last year, Beatrice announced her engagement to Edoardo in September, but her happy news was quickly forgotten when new details emerged about her father Prince Andrew's involvement with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The "black cloud" of Andrew's scandal followed Beatrice's wedding for months, reportedly forcing Buckingham Palace to delay announcing the princess' wedding date.
Fortunately, her secret wedding in July managed to escape the controversy, and now her sister is believed to have timed her baby news to prevent causing Beatrice any more heartache.
