Australian pop icon Helen Reddy has died, her family has confirmed.
The music legend – known for her feminist anthem I Am Woman – was 78.
The singer's life was recently turned into a movie of the same name.
Reddy had been living with dementia in a nursing home for retired Hollywood stars in Los Angeles.
"She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and a truly formidable woman. Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever."
Sommers had earlier posted a photo of his mother on Instagram, along with three purple hearts.
Reddy, who was born in Melbourne, became an Australian music star during the 1970s with the hits Delta Dawn, Angie Baby, Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress) and Ain't No Way To Treat A Lady.
She became the world's top-selling female singer in 1973 and 1974, despite years of struggles.
In 1973 Reddy won a Grammy for I Am Woman and famously told the audience she wanted to thank "God, because She makes everything possible".
Reddy was the first Australian woman since opera singer Joan Sutherland to win the highly-converted US music award.
A performer as a child, Reddy moved to New York in 1966 after winning Bandstand but when that opportunity didn't pan out, she remained in the US.
She will forever be remembered for I Am Woman, which remains a rallying cry for women around the world.
