Mariah Carey makes shocking allegations of abuse in new book - NEWS.com.au

With dozens of number ones and top 10 hits on both sides of the Atlantic and an estimated half a billion dollar fortune, Mariah Carey is considered one of the most successful female artists of all time.

Now the superstar singer is set to lift the lid for the first time on her traumatic upbringing and tumultuous private life in one of the most anticipated celebrity memoirs of the year.

The Sun reports that Mariah claims her brother was a failed hit man and describes how she was allegedly pimped out by her older sister at the age of 12 in the explosive biography, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, which goes on sale today.

The songstress will also tell how she was threatened with a knife by first husband Tommy Mottola and allegedly kept like a prisoner in their giant mansion.

In the book, Mariah also talks about how at the height of her fame, she suffered a breakdown – and how her own mother called the police and had her committed.

The Fantasy singer is set to give a no-holds-barred account of her painful childhood in the bombshell book.

“One time when Mariah was six, her older brother Morgan lashed out at their mother during an argument and threw her against the wall,” a publishing source said.

“Mariah was terrified he had killed her and stood there glued to the spot until police came.

“She also talks about how Morgan was a failed hit man – in 1980 a woman asked him to kill her husband for $30,000. He was given $1200 upfront but he never went through with it.”

The Sun understands he denies the claims.

The source went on: “Then as an adult, Mariah remembers how Morgan and her mother came to her and told her how her mum’s second husband was threatening to ruin her career by revealing family secrets.

“She says Morgan asked for $5000 to ‘take care’ of the guy and no one would ever know. She was shocked her family would suggest such a plan.”

Mariah gives a similarly dismal account of her relationship with older sister Alison.

“She recalls a time when she was 12 and Alison gave her a whole valium, then not long after she says she tried to give her cocaine,” the source said.

“Shockingly she says Alison tried to pimp her out to one of her boyfriends who one time came to pick her up alone and tried to put his arm around her and kiss her.

“Another time she claims Alison gave her third degree burns across her back after throwing some scalding hot tea at her.”

When approached by The Sun, Alison strongly denied ever giving her younger sister drugs and said she was shocked and appalled Mariah would accuse her of pimping her out.

She also said the incident with the tea was a pure accident.

Mariah will also blame her family for playing a part in her mental breakdown, the insider said

The star will describe how she became exhausted after having shoots or events until 3am and then press interviews scheduled for 5am.

“She claims she felt like Princess Diana at times and remembers seeing her at a Vogue party once. They looked at each other and Mariah felt they were both like cornered animals being hunted and never being left alone by people around them,” the insider said.

“She was so sleep-deprived she ended up going to stay at her mother’s house to get some rest but they ended up arguing.

“Mariah claims that her mum then called the cops who removed her from the house and took her to a rehab facility.

“It took days for her to be able to sign herself out, and not long after, her brother Morgan persuaded her to go to LA where she could go to a spa.

“However when she got to the place – it wasn’t a spa but a hardcore detox facility where she was pumped with drugs.”

Mariah now refers to Morgan and Alison as her ex-brother and ex-sister – and calls her mother Pat, the source said.

“She says they have treated her like an ATM machine and she gave them money time and time again.

“Mariah blames her PTSD – which she still suffers from to this day – on her family and what they have done to her over the years.”

Her knight in shining armour at the time was pop legend Prince who she says gave her “hope”, the source said.

“She felt abandoned by everyone,” the insider added.

“He gave her a Bible that she still has. She calls him her ‘brother angel’. The book doesn’t divulge their conversations – but she says his wise words soothed her.”

Mariah will also open up about her first husband, music mogul Tommy Mottola, who she married when she was just 23 and he was 44.

She will claim that the former Sony boss terrorised her with a knife after a fling with Yankees legend Derek Jeter.

“She met Derek at a dinner party and she fell for him very hard and she threw caution to the winds and allowed him to walk her to her car,” the source said.

“Tommy found out about Derek and was enraged.

“He picked up a butter knife and pressed the flat side of it against her right cheek while ‘his boys’ – two industry biggies who were there – watched and didn’t say a word.

“Then he slowly dragged the knife down her face.”

“She wasn’t physically injured by Tommy but it finally gave her the courage to leave him.”

Mariah will claim that living with Mottola in their mansion – which had a pistol range, a recording studio and two swimming pools – was like living in a prison.

“She calls the mansion ‘Sing Sing’ after New York’s most notorious prison.

“It was protected by armed guards. She says that there were security cameras in most of the rooms and Tommy used them to watch her every movement.”

Heartbreakingly, Mariah will open up about the miscarriage of her first baby with second husband Nick Cannon.

“After the miscarriage she will describe how she went on a strict health regime and ended up getting pregnant with twins.

“She talks about how the first person to know she was expecting twins was Michelle Obama, who she confided in after a performance.

“Her pregnancy was really tough, she gained over 100 pounds (45kg) and became dangerously ill with poisonous oedema and pregnancy diabetes.

“It was a tough time but her babies were born and she fell in love – and says to this day she’s never left them for more than 24 hours.

“They are her world and she’s so proud that after her terrible childhood she’s broken the cycle and can give her children everything they need.”

In a statement Tommy Mottola said: “I met Mariah over 32 years ago and together achieved a staggering 15 #1 hits in a row and sold over 200 million albums worldwide … breaking all records globally.

“I am deeply gratified for the role I played in Mariah’s well-deserved and remarkable success and continue to wish her and her family only the very best.”

Alison Carey said: “I have never given Mariah drugs or pimped her out. I would never have done anything to hurt my baby sister and I’m saddened and hurt that Mariah would make allegations like these to sell a book.”

Morgan Carey did not respond to requests for comment.
