Grant Denyer and his wife Chezzi reveal their romance began as a secret affair on It’s All True? podcast - PerthNow

TV favourite Grand Denyer and his wife Chezzi have been married for 10 years but they revealed that their relationship began under less than perfect circumstances.

Speaking on their new podcast, It’s All True? The Family Feud host and his wife said had a secret affair for several years before their relationship was made official.

Chezzi – who was Grant’s producer on Channel 7’s Sunrise when he joined the program in 2005 as a weather presenter – was married to another man and Grant was also dating someone else at the time.

“It was a rough journey - it wasn’t like what you see in the movies,” Chezzi said.

“It was problematic, it took a long time to navigate,” Grant added.

The couple went to extreme lengths to hide their relationship and in a previous episode Grant said Chezzi even wore wigs to sneak into his apartment undetected and often had paparazzi waiting for them.

The network thought Chezzi was leaking stories to ruin Grant’s previous marriage and she ultimately made the decision to leave television.

“In the end I left TV, I couldn’t deal with it. My parents were petrified. I basically ran away and moved back to Bathurst,” she said.

However, when Grant broke his back in a monster truck accident in 2008, the couple came clean about their relationship.

“At the time we hadn’t confirmed our relationship,” Chezzi said.

“Grant’s family didn’t know about me but we had been living together for three months.”

Despite their drama-filled start, they were married in 2009 and share two children, Sailor, aged eight, and Scout, aged four.

They are expecting their third child next year.

Grant and Chezzi have been at the the centre of media scandals for years and their podcast is an unfiltered tell all into their marriage and life including Grant’s addiction to prescription drugs.

In the first episode of the podcast last week, the couple told of how his wife once discovered him sleeping rough, surrounded by human excrement, as part of one of his psychotic episodes.
