Reynold Poernomo has slapped down a fellow MasterChef contestant’s “mean” comments about judge Andy Allen.
Back in July, Chris Badenoch ripped into Andy’s “incredibly frustrating” critiques on the cooking show during an interview with news.com.au.
“It’s not feedback; it’s just a collection of words that make no sense,” Chris, who was the seventh person eliminated from this season of MasterChef, said.
“He’s commented on things that I’ve cooked and when he’s walked away it’s like, ‘I have no idea what he said or what he meant.’ You almost need subtitles. I don’t get it.
“It’s incredibly frustrating. Jock or Melissa will give you a good critique … (but Andy) it’s not constructive. It’s like a Trump speech; a whole lot of words that don’t match.”
But Reynold, who has a new YouTube show starting tomorrow called Sweet X Salty, has now hit back at Chris’ comments.
“To be honest, that’s quite mean,” Reynold told news.com.au. “I really respect Andy and what he does. His feedback was quite good.”
Reynold said that a lot of Andy’s helpful feedback didn’t make it to air this season because so much of the show ended up on the editing room floor.
“Off camera, when you have a chat with Andy, he talks to you about what went wrong and what his opinion was,” Reynold said.
He added that “Andy is a joyous personality” who he plans to “grab a couple of beers with once he’s back in Sydney”.
Andy is currently in Melbourne filming Junior MasterChef Australia.
As for Reynold, he’s currently putting the finishing touches on his new YouTube show which drops tomorrow.
“I’ll talk about my food opinions, take people through what I love to eat, take them shopping, show them a bit into my lifestyle and then afterwards just cook what I like to cook which is just really simple home food,” he said about the Sweet X Salty series.
He’ll also teach viewers how to make some of the elaborate desserts that he showcased on MasterChef.
“I’ll explain thought process and how I created it and I’ll break down the recipe so people will be able to do the components at home,” he said.
It’s been one month since Reynold finished third in MasterChef, with Emelia Jackson taking home the trophy and the $250,000 in prize money.
Reynold broke down in tears when he was eliminated before the grand finale, but he told news.com.au he’s managed to put the disappointment behind him.
“I still kick myself here and there, but I’m doing good,” he told news.com.au. “In terms of where my career is heading, I’m actually quite happy.”
