Channel Ten veteran Kerri-Anne Kennerley has given an emotionally-charged address, saluting for the cameras in her first TV appearance since being axed as part of the network’s sweeping job cuts.
The Studio 10 host wore a striking military-style jacket as she spoke of her plan to “get in front of the parade” after news of her redundancy made national headlines yesterday.
“I just know I’m back on the lazy Susan of television, it’s very very tough for a lot of people,” the 66-year-old said this morning.

“But I’ve always worked on a personal level on the Charles Darwin theory that says to survive you don’t have to be the most intelligent, you don’t have to be the strongest, but you have to be the most adaptable. My life’s theory is that.”
Kennerley appeared to fight back tears as she told of leaving behind her “delightful” Studio 10 colleagues and was cheered by her co-hosts as she saluted for the cameras.
“I’ve had a ball ... the reason I’ve got this outfit on today is because if you’re being run out of town, get in front of the parade or get in front of the crowd and make it look like a parade.
“Companies do these sort of cuts to make the business better, which in the long run saves a lot more jobs. I’m very, very sad... that said it is what it is, you just have to suck it up and move on.”
Studio 10’s Sarah Harris also appeared downcast as she told viewers the dust was “still settling” amid the job cut announcement.
“In a few weeks’ time Studio 10 our little show will look very different to how it does now,” she said.
“We’re losing colleagues, we’re losing mates, we’re losing family members essentially.”
Perth newsreader Monika Kos and weather presenter Michael Schultz are among the raft of high-profile talent also axed as part of the cost cuts.
Perth and Brisbane’s weekday news bulletins will now be centralised from Sydney, while Adelaide’s news will be delivered from Melbourne.
During the staff address Ten’s network director of news content Ross Dagan said it was a “sad day” and that those facing redundancies would be sorely missed.
“The decision to make these changes was a very difficult one and I want to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to our friends and colleagues who will leave the network,” Dagan said.
“It is in no way a reflection of their talent, contribution or passion. They are exceptionally gifted people. We are incredibly proud of them and their work. There is no doubt they will be missed.
“These painful changes reflect the state of the media industry in recent years and the need for all media companies to achieve new efficiencies.”
