Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins had 10 psychoactive substances and medicines in his body.
The star was found dead in a Bogota hotel room on Saturday morning and Colombian authorities have released a preliminary toxicology report.
It detected 10 psychoactive substances and medicines in the 50-year-old’s system, “including THC (marijuana), tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines and opioids”.
The statement stressed it was a preliminary report and no conclusions had been made about the cause of Hawkins’ death.
It also did not say what volume of substances had been found in the analysis.
“The National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences continues its examination to provide a full understanding of the circumstances that led to the death of Taylor Hawkins,” the statement said.
Earlier, the Bogota Government issued a statement saying the city’s emergency centre received a report of a patient with “chest pain” and it sent an ambulance but a private ambulance had already arrived at the hotel in northern Bogota.
Health workers tried to revive Hawkins but were unable to do so.
It has led to speculation that he may have died of a heart attack.
The Foo Fighters had been in Colombia after a South American tour to play at the Estereo Picnic music festival on Saturday night, just hours after Hawkins’ death.
The performance was cancelled.
“His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever,” a message on the band’s official Twitter account said.
Heartbreaking photos showed mourning fans gathered outside Hawkins’ hotel, with police and members of the Technical Investigation Team seen transporting his body away.
A host of well-known musicians have taken to social media to pay tribute to the late drummer.
Gene Simmons said: “Shocked and saddened to hear @taylorhawkins has passed away today. Our prayers and condolences go out to the Hawkins family, @foofighters friends and fans. Sad. (sic)“
Queen guitarist Brian May also expressed his shock and sadness after the news was confirmed.
“No. It cannot be. Heartbroken. Taylor, you were family to us. Our friend, our brother, our beloved child. Bless you. We will miss you so bad,” he wrote.
Ozzy Osbourne tweeted: “@TaylorHawkins was truly a great person and an amazing musician. My heart, my love and my condolences go out to his wife, his children, his family, his band and his fans. See you on the other side.”
Billy Idol described Hawkin’s death as “so tragic”.
