Block’s new crisis: ‘Worst I’ve ever seen’ - NEWS.com.au

Five weeks in, one Block couple is haemorrhaging cash - and Scott Cam visits them with a dire warning.

The Block host Scott Cam has warned Tanya and Vito about a big problem – and this time, it’s not their cheating scandal.

It appears the controversial pair haven’t been managing their finances on The Block: By week five, they’re more than $10,000 in debt, while other teams still have tens of thousands of dollars left to spend in their kitties.

“[You] do have some … budget issues. I’m not going to go crook on you, because I’m perplexed. I’m confused. There’s some really odd things going on, on further investigation of what you guys are doing,” Cam tells the couple during a walk-through with judge Darren Palmer.

Cam gives them an example of their “confusing” spending: An invoice for $2200 to be paid to a company that provided their door jambs – which Cam points out could’ve been sourced at no cost from the show’s sponsor, Mitre 10.

Digging further into their invoices, “I’ve just found about $4000 worth of stuff that you didn’t need to spend in cash at all.”

“Your budget, at this stage, is the worst budget I’ve ever seen in week five, and that needs to improve,” he tells them.

All is not lost for the pair – they have a couple of Block saviours they’re yet to employ, including the “game changer” $10,000 cash injection, which can be spent on one ‘wow’ feature of the property. They tell him they’re saving that for a pool.

“Don’t talk about pools at this stage – get that out of your head. You’re a long way off pools,” Cam warns them, instructing them to instead focus on slowing their money drain.

Later in the episode, the Melbourne-based pair ruffle some feathers when their children drop by for a visit to The Block.

“Truly, we needed it. We really did. It was time,” says Tanya of the visit – but Perth’s Ronnie and Georgia, also parents, aren’t happy about the family reunion.

“Here is my issue: I understand you live in Melbourne, but in the spirit of fair competition, if we all can’t see our family and friends, I don’t see why you can see your family and friends,” says Georgia, who also reveals Tanya’s mother regularly drops off food and collects her washing.

“How do you expect other competitors to respect you and be OK with that?” she asks, as cameras show Tanya and Vito taking their two children for a family excursion off-site.

“Are you that into yourselves that you don’t realise, ‘Maybe parading my kids up and down the street, or driving off to a dinner together, is not going to be well-received by competitors who don’t have the privilege of seeing their children?’” asks Georgia.

“It feels like they can do whatever they want.”
