British film star Vinnie Jones didn’t hold back when asked about his genuinely shocking appearance on The Masked Singer last night.
It’s fair to say nobody was expecting English actor Vinnie Jones to be the first celeb revealed on this season of The Masked Singer last night – and the straight-talking star happily admits he agreed to the random cameo for the “big cheque.”
Speaking to Kyle and Jackie O after his elimination from the show in episode one, Snatch and X Men actor Jones confessed he “didn’t know what he was thinking” signing up to the show – and didn’t have the greatest time in his brief stint as the Proclaimers-singing volcano.
“You know what, as soon as the cheque clears, then the big stick comes out and they start whacking you on the arse with it. They started bossing me around,” he said of his behind-the-scenes experience.
“I wanted to give a few of them a little slap, but every time I wanted to do that, they put a cape over my head and I couldn’t see anyone.”
He said the top secret nature of the show didn’t instil a lot of trust in him: “The only part of trust that comes into this is when the cheque clears,” he quipped.
There was, however, one bright spot: Jones received a personal thank you from judge Dannii Minogue after his elimination, as he’d defended her sister Kylie amid her failed 2017 engagement to British actor Joshua Sasse.
Jones worked with Sasse on the fantasy TV series Galavant for two seasons – and described him to Kyle and Jackie O as an “English knobhead”.
He recalled a lovestruck Kylie coming to visit the set to see her then-fiance. “She was lovely, but I thought, oh no – she’s a rabbit in the headlights with this geezer, it’s all bollocks. All the crew and everybody were like, ‘Oh no, what is she doing?’ She was a long way from home and needed someone with an arm round her,” he said.
Years later, and Kylie’s little sister offered Jones her thanks: “Her sister come up to me after the show and thanked me from the family, because I’d told Kylie that he was a bellend. She thanked me because I’d stuck up for Kylie.”
Aside from that sweet encounter with a Minogue, Jones said he had one thought after being booted from the show: “Thank god … I never thought getting my head ripped off would be so satisfying.”
