SAS star withdrawn after brutal fight - NEWS.com.au

The controversial SAS boxing matches made a return on tonight’s episode, and they’ve already claimed one contestant’s spot on the show after he suffered a painful injury.

SAS Australia contestant Pete Murray has been forced to quit the show after suffering a brutal injury during the controversial boxing challenge.

The Australian musician, 51, was up against retired tennis player Mark Philippoussis, 44, who earlier in the episode was told by the SAS soldiers that his lack of aggression was holding him back.

Determined to step up, Philippoussis’ bout with Murray ends up with the singer being punched to the ground, dislocating his elbow.

After hitting the ground, Murray starts shouting: “Elbow! Elbow!”

“Your elbow has come out of joint,” soldier Ant Middleton tells him.

The match is quickly stopped and medics are called to the scene, as Murray is taken to hospital.

He is ultimately medically withdrawn from the course.

The cast is visibly mortified, but the instructors don’t hold back.

“Guess what, it happens,” Middleton tells the recruits. “You’re gonna get cuts and bruises, stitches, breaks. That’s what I said at the beginning, this isn’t a f***ing game. If you don’t like it, give me your numbers, grab your kit and f**k off.”

Fans of the show would remember on last year’s season, Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins was pitted against AFLW star Sabrina Frederick when he was encouraged to punch her.

It caused significant controversy among viewers at the time, but Frederick later said she was “truly grateful” she wasn’t discriminated against because of her gender.

“In battle, the enemy doesn’t care about your gender or size and we had to think like soldiers to get through each and every task,” Frederick told 7 News after the backlash.

“Yes, I was scared but that’s the whole point of SAS selection – not letting the fear consume you and instead harnessing it to empower you.

“I am truly grateful for Nick and for that experience.”

There was no man versus woman fights this season, but 28-year-old Jessica Peris went up against 56-year-old Kerri Pottharst in excruciating scenes.

The boxing matches also claimed another contestant, with Alicia Molik pulling out of the show during her round with dual Olympian Jana Pittman.
