Debra Messing doesn’t hold back on social media and her latest target is Kim Kardashian and her new gig.
Will & Grace star Debra Messing is not messing around.
After legendary US sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live named Kim Kardashian as one of the first four hosts of its new season, Messing took to social media to express her confusion.
It seems she’s not in full endorsement of the decision.
The SNL gig will be Kardashian’s – any Kardashian/Jenner – debut, and will be a test for the media personality.
Messing is correct in that guest hosts – who are frequently nominated for guest actor Emmys – often come on the show when they have something to promote, or have a comedy background.
Keeping Up With the Kardashians has just wrapped after 14 years and 20 seasons, but we know American’s most famous family will be back on our screens soon.
The clan has already signed a deal to premiere an as-yet untitled new series on American streaming service Hulu. The show will be available in Australia on Disney+.
The timing of Kardashian as host suggests that the family’s upcoming new TV series could be near.
While it’s unlikely the series will be released as soon as Kardashian’s gig on SNL – October 9 – it could very well serve as a platform to announce the name or date or both.
Disney has previously revealed the series is due to debut in late-2021 – and there’s not a lot of 2021 left.
Kardashian will be joined by Halsey as the musical guest.
In addition to the reality TV star, the other hosts are Owen Wilson, Rami Malek and Jason Sudeikis. They are all first-time hosts, even Sudeikis, who was part of SNL’s cast from 2003 to 2013.
Sudeikis is fresh from his Emmy victory in which he won Lead Actor Comedy for his role in Ted Lasso. Sudeikis also picked up the Comedy Series award for Ted Lasso, which he co-created and is an executive producer.
Ted Lasso also won two other Emmys, Supporting Actress for Hannah Waddingham and Supporting Actor for Brett Goldstein.
Rami Malek’s hosting role will coincide with the US release date of No Time To Die, the next Bond instalment in which he plays the villain. In early 2020, before the covid pandemic wreaked havoc on cinema release schedules, Daniel Craig fronted up as SNL host to promote his last time as the debonair superspy.
Wilson has previously appeared on SNL but has never before been host. His episode will air not long before the release The French Dispatch, Wes Anderson’s ensemble film in which Wilson is one of the featured players.
Wilson and Anderson have a long relationship, dating back to their time at university and made their feature debuts together in Anderson’s Bottle Rocket.
Wilson was also recently in Loki, on Disney+.
Saturday Night Live is broadcast in Australia on Foxtel*
