Buckingham Palace has announced there will be year-long celebrations throughout the UK, the Commonwealth and around the world to mark the Queen's reign.
It said the Queen and members of the royal family would travel around the country to undertake engagements to mark the historic occasion.
That will culminate with the Platinum Jubilee weekend from June 2-5, which will be an extended bank holiday in the UK.
Australian governments have not announced any additional public holidays for the event.
Buckingham Palace concert open to public via ballot
Princess Elizabeth was 25 years old when her father King George VI died and she acceded to the throne on February 6, 1952.
Now aged 95, she is the longest-reigning monarch alive.
While she was born on April 21, her official birthday is held on the second Saturday in June and marked with the Queen's Birthday Parade.
Next year the parade, also known as the Trooping of the Colour, will be held on Thursday, June 2.
Over 1,400 soldiers will march down The Mall to the Horse Guard's Parade along with 200 horses and 400 musicians.
Members of the royal family will join on horseback and in carriages.
They will then stand with the Queen on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch the traditional Royal Air Force fly-past.
Beacons will also be lit throughout the UK and Commonwealth countries.
So far the only event announced for Friday, June 3 is a service of Thanksgiving that will be held at St Paul's Cathedral.
Buckingham Palace said further events for that day would be announced in due course.
On Saturday, the Queen will attend the Derby at Epsom Downs, and the BBC will stage and broadcast a special live concert from Buckingham Palace that will be ticketed to the public with a ballot.
The Platinum Jubilee Pageant will also be held at the palace and surrounding streets on Sunday and combine street arts, theatre, music, circus, carnival and costume.
Closer to home, people can take part in The Big Lunch, an annual event that encourages people to host a street party, picnic or barbecue with their neighbours.
