Celebrity chef Pete Evans has joined anti-lockdown advocates in a Freedom Day rally promotional video, encouraging people to flout coronavirus restrictions on Saturday.
“I invite everybody to stand tall and share their love,” the former My Kitchen Rules host says in the video, while wearing a Bunnings hat.
Another person featured in the video says it is time for Australia to unite.
“The entire thing is a scam and we all know it,” one woman says in the video.
“This is a political agenda. We will make these bastards accountable … they will be charged with treason against the people.”
Another person urges people to protest in the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr and Mahatma Gandhi.
“The evil has placed their cards on the table for everybody to see. The world has awoken,” another man says.
But on Friday, Evans shared a post on Instagram saying key influencers would now “not be supporting the 5th”, claiming the Victorian government would use it to extend stage four lockdown.
“As much as we want to take to the streets, we must be logical, put our community first and postpone this event. This is about strategy and thinking ahead,” the post reads.
Coronavirus sceptics want people to rally in capital cities across Australia on Saturday, drawing criticism from political leaders and police.
Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Luke Cornelius previously said “batsh*t crazy” anti-coronavirus theories would not be tolerated and warned protesters would be arrested.
He also described them as “boofheads” and the “tinfoil hat-wearing brigade”.
Pregnant woman Zoe Buhler was arrested at her Ballarat home this week for allegedly encouraging people to participate.
