‘What did I get myself into?’ LeBron reacts as epic Space Jam trailer is released - Fox Sports

Welcome to the Space Jam trailer!

A two-minute, 37-second preview for the upcoming movie “Space Jam: A New Legacy” was released Saturday and it teases a father-son conflict story in which LeBron James has to play basketball with an overmatched Looney Tunes squad (sound familiar?) to win back his son from captivity.

Well, maybe the trick elevator in the mansion that sends James and his fictional son (Ceyair Wright) on their adventure into the “Serververse,” ruled by the villainous character (Don Cheadle).

“Bet Will Smith ain’t got to deal with this,” James said in the trailer.

But Michael Jordan did in the original “Space Jam,” which was released in 1996. It included some legendary NBA pick-up basketball games on set so Jordan could stay sharp against the likes of Reggie Miller and Juwan Howard.

The cartoon version of James winds up in Bugs Bunny’s universe and is greeted with a trademark, “Eh, what’s up, Doc?” The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, King Kong and dozens of other characters are seen in addition to the Looney Tunes.

For the basketball challenge, the “MonStars” have been replaced. It’s the “Toon Squad” against the “Goon Squad.”

Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, and Diana Taurasi all made cameos.

There weren’t any other NBA stars in the trailer, but that doesn’t mean they won’t make guest appearances, like Patrick Ewing, Shawn Bradley, Charles Barkley and Muggsy Bogues did in the original.

The trailer is accompanied by the original Space Jam theme song and reveals the sequel to the original $230 million blockbuster will be released in theatres and on HBO Max on July 16.
