Prince Philip tribute from UK’s National Rail site slammed by royal supporters - 7NEWS.com.au

Tributes continue to flood in for the Duke of Edinburgh - but not all of them are hitting the mark.

In an attempted show of respect for the late Prince Philip, the UK’s national railway service decided to remove all colour from its website in favour of a greyscale look.

The only problem? The site, one of the most visited in the UK, had been “rendered completely useless” to those who are colourblind.

National Rail posted the change via social media on April 12, explaining the website had been altered as a mark of respect following the death of 99-year-old Duke of Edinburgh.

Website users took to Twitter to vent their struggles using the site.

“Cheers. Is there a way to change it back to normal as a user? As all grey I struggle with,” One wrote replying to a National Rail Twitter post.

In a reply to the comment, it seemed evident that even people working at National Rail were struggling to use their own site.

“Unfortunately, I do not believe there is currently. I will leave a note for someone to look at on Monday to see if there is,” National Rail replied.

“As I too have been struggling to read while it is coloured differently.”

Others piled on as National Rail staff scrambled to fix their mistake.

“This is a mark of disrespect for disabled customers,” another person observed.

“How is making your website inaccessible a mark of respect?” another wrote.

“I have a feeling that Prince Philip would have been the first to laugh and say how ridiculous this is,” a third added.

It appears that the website has since been changed back to colour following the backlash, with National Rail issuing a statement via Twitter.

“The National Rail website was temporarily greyscaled as a mark of respect following the death of HRH Duke of Edinburgh on Friday,” the tweet read.

“We’ve listened to feedback about how people are using the website and have made further changes today to make it more accessible to all our customers.”

According to Colour Blind Awareness organisation, three million people in the UK struggle with colour blindness.
