Nick Weaver, co-founder of Deep Sea Arcade, has died - ABC News

Nick Weaver, co-founder of Sydney psychedelic pop band Deep Sea Arcade, has died aged 37.

He had been diagnosed with bowel cancer, his family said in a statement to Double J on Thursday.

"He was in the midst of many projects including recording a new album with The Tambourine Girls, a disco record with Salmon Brothers, as well as a solo record, which his bandmates have pledged to finish and release soon.

"His creativity was only just blossoming, and he will be greatly missed."

Weaver co-founded Deep Sea Arcade with his childhood friend Nic McKenzie and they released their first album, Outlands, in 2012 to critical praise.

They toured with Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Modest Mouse, Kaiser Chiefs and others and played at major Australian, UK and European festivals.

They followed it up with 2018's Blacklight, recorded with the Grammy-winning producer Eric J Dubowsky (St Vincent, Chet Faker), before disbanding.

In between Weaver released two EPs and albums with The Tambourine Girls, a four-piece indie pop band led by ex-Deep Sea Arcade guitarist Simon Relf.
