AFLW star Jess Trendsacrificed her footy career and the last moments with her beloved nanna to compete in Big Brother.
Viewers were introduced to the 28-year-old during last night’s episode, but it took less than 24 hours inside the compound for tragedy to strike.
Just after Trend explained to her new housemates that she wanted to win the competition for her nanna, Big Brother was forced to pull the athlete into the diary room to patch through a desperate call from home.
Trend’s nanna had been given just days to live.
“I remember saying if there was ever anything that made me leave the house it would be my nanna,” Trend told AAA.
“Before she became unresponsive, she said to my mum, ‘don’t let Jess leave the house,’ and my family also said the exact same thing.”
Even if Trend had decided to call it quits just one day into her reality TV journey, she would be forced to quarantine for two weeks in Victoria — missing her Nanna’s final moments.
It wasn’t the only sacrifice Trend had to consider. The athlete was traded to the Fremantle Dockers last year but turned it down last minute to take a stab at winning the $250,000 Big Brother prize pool.
“Before going into the house I just had it in my mind that I really wanted to last until December, because then I could walk out of the house knowing giving up ALFW was worth it... then when the whole Nanna thing happened it gave me more fuel to go further for her,” she said.
