Gold Logie winning actor Craig McLachlan will testify about indecent assault allegations next month from a remote location after a bid to have him give evidence in Victoria failed.
The 55-year-old is accused of indecently assaulting four women when he was involved in the musical production of the Rocky Horror Show.
He has been charged with 14 counts of both indecent assault and assault, and is fighting all of them.
The actor’s lawyer Sam Tovey said there was an “extraordinary and unprecedented” delay in the case and the matter should be heard as soon as possible.
But the former Neighbours star should front the Melbourne Magistrates Court in-person rather than online, prosecutor Matt Fisher argued on Friday.
It was a “matter of fairness and in the interests of justice” for McLachlan to appear in court like the complainants did, he said.
There were also practical reasons including how documents and exhibits would be presented, and there may be difficulty with a large amount of people using the online court system, he said.
Magistrate Belinda Wallington said because of coronavirus restrictions, the hearing would go ahead using the online system and she refused to delay the case any further.
Four other witnesses including two character references for the actor will also be called to give evidence.
McLachlan will face court on November 2.
