Viewers side with Merrick Watts after his explosive fight with Firass Dirani on SAS Australia - NEWS.com.au

We’re up to the fourth episode of SAS Australia, and we’re finally seeing some fiery behaviour between the celebrity recruits.

Firass Dirani has found himself in trouble with the directing staff (DS) and on two occasions the celebrities were punished after he went against the instructors’ directions. We’re surprised it’s taken this long for someone to speak up.

After a long day of being slogged in the freezing cold water for a task, Merrick Watts and Shannan Ponton lose it at Firass after he nearly had the whole team thrown back into the lake for making more disrespectful comments.

As expected, Twitter lit up after the fight aired, with most people siding with Merrick for putting the larrakin in his place.

“Mate that’s three in a row,” an exasperated Shannan tells him.

“We’re all done with that sh*t mate,” Merrick agrees, completely fed up.

“We’re done with you dobbing off to the f***ing DS mate. Don’t say anything. Don’t say sh*t to us. Get through the f***ing course,” he yells, all the while Firass questioning him and not letting him finish.

“What are you screaming about mate?” Firass fires back.

“Because we’re f***ing sick of this sh*t,” Merrick responds.

“Listen to me, calm down!” Firass says.

The pair continue their spat with Firass, brushing off everything Merrick says, constantly telling him to “relax”.

“It’s a sophisticated complex situation,” Firass says, defending himself.

“It’s not that simple.”

Erin McNaught then comes to back Merrick up.

“Firass seriously, it’s not. You just don’t say anything other than ‘Yes staff, no staff’.”

Merrick then asks, “Who’s with me on this?” to the rest of the recruits, with almost everyone raising their hands.

“We just want you to shut your mouth,” says Shannan.

“The way you talk to them is disrespectful,” Merrick yells at Firass, who replies: “I don’t disrespect them. I try to connect… I get it. It’s not my first barbecue,” he tells the rest of the recruits, who look exhausted.

We then get a piece to camera from Firass finally explaining why he is the way he is.

“Authority – I have a problem with it. Especially if they’re shouting at me. Commanding things of me. I don’t know if that really sits well with me it’s never sat well.”

When Firass is then asked why he hasn’t apologised to any of his fellow recruits, he answers, “sorry about what? You haven’t been punished it’s okay, I understand what the situation is.”

Shannan then loses it: “I beg your pardon? You’re speaking out of you’re a**.”

Firass fires back: “You are a gullible man, very naive.”

It comes after one of the SAS Australia instructors unleashed on Firass Dirani after the actor claimed he was being edited to appear as a “villain” on the show.

After the second episode of the Channel 7 show aired last week, Dirani posted a video on his Instagram story in which he said: “I knew it. I knew they were gonna make me into the villain. There has to be a villain, ladies and gentleman, and lo and behold, right here, this is it.”

But in a chat with news.com.au, SAS Australia directing staff Mark ‘Billy’ Billingham dismissed Dirani’s claim and said: “He should be actually grateful to be edited the way they did. He’s a lot worse than that.”

According to Billingham, Dirani “came across as arrogant” and “had a terrible attitude”.

“It came to the point where the rest of the celebrities were getting really fed up with him. That’s not a showpiece – he really was messing up all the time and he could not keep his mouth shut, no matter what you said to him.”

Billingham told news.com.au that Dirani “drew attention to himself for all the wrong reasons” and said the House Husbands star would constantly roll his eyes when being interviewed by the SAS Australia instructors.

“They’ve more than fairly edited him to be honest because he was a pain in the arse,” Billingham said. “I mean, he’s a nice guy, don’t get me wrong … but he’s not a personality that you’d want to go out drinking with to be honest. He’s a bit of a pain.”
