It might seem like the cushiest job in reality TV – but it turns out signing up to find love in a Fijian resort on Bachelor in Paradise is hardly a tropical holiday.
Brittany Hockley – who found fame in Nick Cummins’ season of The Bachelor before appearing in this year’s Paradise – lifted the lid on the day-to-day realities of filming the show in an episode of Life Uncut, the podcast she hosts with 2017 Bachelor winner Laura Byrne.
After Laura pointed out that - to viewers - it looks like they mostly just “lay around getting boozed all day”, Brittany firmly set the record straight.
“The worst thing is people being like, ‘Oh, at least you got a holiday!’” she said with a groan.
“I cannot stress this enough – (Paradise) is not a holiday.”

Brittany, 32, went on to explain that producers would prompt them into action if they relaxed for too long.
“It is constant, it’s a show – you’re working. Yeah, I’m not labouring all day, but it is a job,” she said.
“To be honest, there’d be moments when you’d be laying around, and the producer will come out and (clap) say, ‘Up you get, you’re all boring, you have to get up and go and do something.’”
Laura also grilled Brittany on how much they were drinking on the island each day, as they’re rarely seen without a drink in hand during the episodes.
“I only got drunk once on The Bachelor – but (Paradise) is different,” she said.
“You can’t start drinking until midday – the bar opens at 12 – and then you get two drinks an hour and you can basically drink until midnight. That’s a lot of drinks, and in the sun.”
However, producers manage to keep an eagle eye on contestants.
“They have a duty of care, so while you’re allowed that many drinks – the second they think you’ve had too many, or you’re too intoxicated, they’ll cut you off. I think Jamie (Doran) got cut off a few times, and I think (Brittney Weldon) got cut off once, bless her soul,” Brittany said, claiming that the heightened surveillance was because there was more potential for things to go awry on Paradise.
“It’s different because on The Bachelor, you don’t get a second alone with him – there’s nothing that could possibly happen. But in Paradise, there’s people everywhere, guys and girls … anything could happen, so they have to keep their eyes open.”

As viewers may have noticed, apart from the drama-filled Bula Banquets, contestants are rarely seen eating any meals – but according to Brittany, they’ve got access to the resort’s restaurant “any time” of the day.
“You just go up and order from a menu, they’ve got burgers, chips, salads, steaks … things like that,” she said.
“It’s just what you think you’d get at a Fijian resort, but wound back – no oysters, just cassava (root vegetable) chips.”
However, according to the reality TV star, the best food is on offer after filming wraps each night.
“As soon as you finish filming – and this was my favourite part – they bring out trays with probably a hundred toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches, and they’re so good because you’ve been filming all day, you’re hungry, you’ve had drinks … There’s nothing better.”
Brittany also revealed the awkward truth about her “intimate” bath date on the beach with Timm Hanly, admitting their romantic tryst was actually unfolding just metres away from the rest of the cast.
“There’s like really, really beautiful baths on this platform overlooking the ocean, the sun is setting, there’s champagne, there are grapes, it’s absolutely beautiful … And it’s about 30m away from everyone else,” she laughed to her co-host.
“It was insane.”
