It’s the most excruciating part of any TV competition finale – and reality veteran Ricki-Lee Coulter knows it all too well.
Two weeks after the Australian Idol finale aired, the host took to Instagram to shed light on the comically lengthy pause she took before announcing this year’s winner.
Coulter, 38, shared a clip of the dramatic moment to her Stories – hilariously adding a timer, which showed that she waited more than 30 seconds before saying Sydney musician Dylan Wright’s name.
“The agonising wait before I was given the green light from the director to announce the winner,” she captioned it.
“Hot tip … it was LONG! I’m so sorry to Dylan Wright and the whole of Australia for keeping you on the edge of your seats for THAT long!!! I was just doing my job.”

Wright was crowned as the 2024 Australian Idol winner late last month after triumphing over Denvah Baker-Moller and Amy Reeves in the nailbiting finale.
The young dad had blown the judges and audience away week after week with his impressive vocal performances, and gushed that he was “about to cry” after the result was declared.
Wright walked away with a recording contract with industry giant Sony Music Entertainment Australia and $100,000 in prize money.
