Carrie Bickmore’s big TV return with Fifi Box - news.com.au

Almost one year after departing The Project, Carrie Bickmore was back on TV.

But it was for one night only in the special episode of Celebrity Gogglebox Australia, which aired on Foxtel last night with an encore screening set for Channel Ten this evening.

The beloved TV and radio personality played couch critic on the show with fellow radio star and best friend, Fifi Box, with the yearly special benefiting the mental health charity service, ReachOut Australia.

“This was so much fun hanging on the couch watching tv with my bestie @bickmorecarrie laughter, tears, it was a lot!” Box captioned Instagram photos of them on the couch.

Indeed, they cried over the I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Outta Here! finale when campmate and finalist Liz Ellis got a visit from her children after many weeks in the remote South African jungle.

“I couldn’t leave my kids,” Box said, wiping away the tears.

“Nope, there’s no... absolutely no way I could leave them for that long,” Bickmore added.

But the tears really flowed when champion boxer and finalist Harry Garside got a visit from his dad.

“OK, that one’s got me,” Box cried about the emotional reunion.

There was plenty of laughter too, and tales of fancy nights out at wineries that weren’t Box’s cup of tea, as she preferred fruity, pre-mixed alcopops.

“I’ve been drinking these since I was 18 and I stand by they are definitely childish,” she said while holding a red variety on the couch.

Bickmore playfully roasted her for drinking what is typically an alcoholic beverage of choice for the younger crowd.

“Remember when I took you to a degustation wine dinner and all you drank was vodka and cordial?” she told Box, who remembered all too well.

“And you introduced me to the man from the winery and I asked him if he knew what a Fire Engine was?” Box replied, referring to the drink that contained vodka, Sprite and red cordial.

Fans could not get enough of the duo’s playful banter as they strapped in for an “evening with Fifi and Carrie”, as one fan put it.

“Beautiful friendship lots of laughs,” one wrote on Instagram, while another said, “J️ust love your friendship - remind me of me and my bestie.” ️

Many more agreed: “Nothing beats hanging with a Girlfriend!” one commented.

Yet another one wrote: “Was a great show but stop making me cry every time you and Fifi cry.”

Bickmore’s appearance on Celebrity Gogglebox was the first time she has graced TV since leaving The Project in November.

It was this time last year that she announced her departure from the show after 13 years, calling the decision the “hardest of my professional life”.

“After 13 years at The Project, I have made the tough decision to finish up hosting the show at the end of the year. It‘s been the hardest decision of my professional life to make this call, but it’s time for a new challenge and my next chapter,” she said on air at the time.

“There’s so much I’m gonna miss, I’m gonna miss my best mates on the desk, the job itself, which is so incredibly fulfilling. The wonderful viewers over the last 13 years.

“It’s no secret that this show has become a second home to me, and I couldn’t be more thankful to everyone that has been involved on and off screen.”

The role won Bickmore a Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television in 2015.

Celebrity Gogglebox Australia is now streaming on Foxtel, and will also air on Channel 10 tonight at 8.30pm
