Alicia Keys has deleted and apologised for a post on social media after some accused her of showing sympathy toward terror group Hamas.
In a now-deleted post, the singer shared her desire to one day go paragliding along with a “side-eye” emoji.
“What would you do if u weren’t afraid of anything??? Tell me your truth …” wrote the star. “I’ve had my eyes on paragliding…”.
Sadly for the star, the ill-timed wording of the post left many in the comments angry and upset.
Last weekend, Hamas used paragliders to fly into Israel during an attack on a music festival which left hundreds dead.
Almost immediately, some users on Instagram called Keys out for being insensitive. Some suggested that the word paragliding was triggering to many following the recent horrific events.
However, others went further and suggested that Keys’ choice of outfit colour in the post, green, suggested support for the terrorist group.
Advocacy group StopAntisemitism also publicly questioned on Twitter whether the language used by Keys was an “ode to Hamas”.
Following the backlash, Keys deleted the post, and shared a statement to her Instagram Stories insisting that it had been entirely unrelated to the ongoing war in Gaza.
She also shared her sympathies with those who have lost their lives, and urged for peace.
“The post I shared was COMPLETELY unrelated in any way to the recent devastating loss of innocent lives. My heart has been breaking …. I pray for and stand for peace,” wrote the star.

Key’s former manager, Guy Oseary, also shared a post confirming that Keys had not meant to cause any upset with her post.
“There’s talk of an antisemitic post that my dear friend Alicia Keys had up on her Instagram,” Oseary wrote. “I can confirm to anyone in my Jewish community that needs to hear it: it’s NOT true.”
“There was a specific word in her post that our community at this very painful time find very triggering, but it was absolutely not connected in any way,” Oseary continued. “I spoke to Alicia and she was horrified to learn what the word implied and immediately took it down.”
