The Directors Guild of America members have reportedly voted to ratify the agreement that union negotiators struck with studios and streamers in early June.
DGA membership spans directors, assistant directors, unit production managers and stage managers, among others. 87% of the vote was in support of the deal in a referendum that ended on June 23rd. 13% voted against.
41% of the union’s 16,321 eligible voting members turned out for the vote. The union says it was a turnout level that exceeded any prior DGA ratification vote.
The new contract will take effect starting July 1st and will extend through June 30th 2026. DGA president Lesli Linka Glatter said in a statement:
“I’m proud to report that DGA members have joined together to ratify a new contract that will allow every Director, Assistant Director, Unit Production Manager, Associate Director and Stage Manager to share in the success of what we create. Our new contract secures gains on wages, global streaming residuals, safety, diversity and creative rights that build for the future and impact every category of member in our Guild.”
The DGA’s contract talks were sandwiched between those for the Writers Guild of America who are currently on strike over its negotiations, and SAG-AFTRA, which is ready to strike should an agreement not be reached by the end of next Friday when the deadline roles around.
A tentative pact between the DGA and AMPTP was reached on June 3rd, meaning it took three weeks before it was ratified. SAG-AFTRA is pushing to secure significantly better terms than the DGA and covers a wider range of people – from actors to extras, voice-over artists, and more – each with their own varying demands. Thus with a week to go, negotiations are still ongoing.
