Kerri-Anne Kennerley has dramatically quit I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here after an emotion-charged bust-up with a fellow celebrity.
Just three days into her extremely well-paid reality TV gig, Kennerley walked out on the show, complaining she had been treated unfairly and that “abuse” she had received from Domenica Calarco was “overwhelming”.
Former Married At First Sight’s Calarco called Kennerley “the most self-centred b***c she’s ever met” after a disastrous eating challenge where the TV icon refused to eat the testicles of a kudu, a species of antelope.
Kennerley said she would rather go home than eat the bush tucker and that if she did leave, Calarco could have her make-up.
It was a decision that meant the team of four competitors, which included radio host Woody Whitelaw and former Australian Idol host Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson, had no chance of securing a possible 13 stars that would later be traded for dinner for the rest of the celebrities.
Kennerley’s refusal infuriated Calarco who lashed out: “Miss big contract lady, ‘Can’t tell me what to do’. I don’t want your (make-up), I don’t want your Revlon 1989 lipstick, doll,” she taunted.
“It’s not fair — it’s not fair to everyone in there who actually tries. Why are you here, bro? Legit, actually, why are you here?”
Calarco accused Kennerley of having no respect or decency for anyone but herself.
“I’ve never met anyone so self-centred in my life.” she said.
As well as being “hurt” by the dressing down from Callarco, the Studio 10 star said she felt unfairly targetted, having had to endure three challenges in a row.
“I’ve made a choice, it was a hard choice. Because I’d love to stay. But it’s never going to work. I thought it was very unfair. I got three trials in a row,” she told her campmates as she walked out.
After her exit, Kennerley — who admitted she had never been camping before — told The Daily Telegraph that she was “very disappointed that I couldn’t stay”.
In regard to Calarco’s comments, she said “I am a tough old bird but that doesn’t mean what people say aren’t hurtful”.
“I also just wanted the camp to know I am not a horrible person. But you can’t have regrets as it’s not how life works.”
Kennerely’s stint may have been short-lived but it is likely to prove profitable after it was earlier revealed she was the highest-paid celebrity on the show, which is shot in the South African jungle.
An industry source revealed she had signed on for a salary of $180,000, although it is unknown how her early exit will affect that final sum.
She was also the only celebrity to be allowed to take make-up into the jungle, an issue that also proved to be a flashpoint between the TV icon and Callarco.
