ABBA’s long-term guitarist Lasse Wellander has died at age 70 following a short battle with cancer.
The Swedish musician’s family took to his official Facebook page on Sunday, to announce that the legendary guitarist passed away on Good Friday “surrounded by his loved ones.”
"It is with indescribable sadness that we have to announce that our beloved Lasse has fallen asleep,” Wellander's family wrote.
"You were an amazing musician and humble as few, but above all you were a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather.
“Kind, safe, caring and loving... and so much more, that cannot be described in words. A hub in our lives, and it's unbelievable that we now have to live on without you."
Wellander joined the Swedish supergroup in 1975 and played guitar on many of the iconic band's most popular tracks.
He also toured with the band for years and helped to create the Mamma Mia! Soundtrack.
After the band broke up n 1982, the prolific guitarist went on to collaborate with a range of other Swedish musicians.
In 2018, Wellander was honored with the Swedish Musicians Union’s Studioräven Award for his session work.
