Popstar Taylor Swift and longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn have reportedly broken up after privately dating for six years.
The British actor was noticeably absent from the first seven shows of Swift’s Eras tour in recent weeks, sending the rumour mill around the couple’s status into overdrive.
Entertainment Tonight exclusively confirmed the pair split “a few weeks ago” on Sunday.
ET revealed that the split “was not dramatic” as they confirmed the reason behind Alwyn skipping Swift’s shows.
“The relationship had just run its course. It’s why (Alwyn) hasn’t been spotted at any shows,” ET quotes a source saying.
After several high profile flings, Swift and Alwyn kept the majority of their six year relationship away from the spotlight.
Due to the private nature, it is unclear when the couple met, but lyrics on Swift’s track "Dress" suggest that it was at the 2016 Met Gala.
Reports about the pair emerged a year later, however, the 33-year-old singer officially confirmed the relationship when she revealed that 2017 single “Gorgeous” was about Alwyn.
Alwyn, 32, has since appeared in several other tracks like 2019 song London Boy and by 2021’s Folklore, became a key musical contributor.
The British-born actor was recognised for his contributions under pseudonym “William Bowery” when Folklore took home Album of the Year in 2021 and has since assisted with last year’s Midnights.
Swift gushed about her beau in rare remarks when she accepted the Grammy for Folklore.
“Joe is the first person that I play every single song that I write, and I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine,” she said.
The loved up pair have repeatedly shut down claims that they were secretly engaged.
Swift will be forced to relive her long term romance on her Eras tour which kicked off in Glendale, Arizona late last month.
The 52-date US tour has an incredible 44-song set list spanning four different albums, with Swift not having toured live - due to pandemic cancellations - since 2018 to promote Reputation.
She is set to wrap up the US leg of the tour on August 9, before releasing international dates.
Swift is rumoured to have booked the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the upcoming Down Under leg but reports are not yet confirmed.
