Sydney broadcaster Brian Henderson has died at the age of 89.
The information was confirmed by Channel Nine, where Henderson read the 6.00pm news for many decades, before retiring in 2002.
He began his television career in the late 1950s — hosting the music program Bandstand as well as presenting the nightly news in Sydney.
He died at his home in the Harbour City.
Henderson holds the record for the longest-serving television news presenter, having read either the weekend or the weeknight news on Sydney station TCN-9 from January 1957 until his retirement 45 years later.
In 1968, Henderson won the TV Week Gold Logie award for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television.
More to come.
