A crew member on Sunrise has tested positive to Covid-19, with host Natalie Barr announcing one of her co-stars is self-isolating.

Sunrise has been hit with a major Covid-19 scare as a crew member tested positive to the virus overnight.

Co-host Natalie Barr opened today’s breakfast program revealing newsreader Edwina Bartholomew was a “close contact” of the positive case and was being forced to self-isolate at home.

Channel 7 confirmed an employee tested positive on Thursday after working at Sunrise’s Martin Place, Sydney offices on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The staff member, who is fully vaccinated and doesn’t live in a hotspot, was immediately tested after they were identified as a close contact of another case.

Addressing viewers this morning alongside fill-in co-host Michael Usher, Barr revealed the offices were undergoing a deep clean and that all staff had been tested.

“Hello and welcome to Friday. A Covid scare of our own overnight, we join you after a staffer tested positive,” Barr began.

“The studio has been deep cleaned. We’ve all been tested.

“Eddy (Bartholomew) is a close contact so she’s isolating but is all right. And Kochie (David Koch) was already having the day off so Michael is here. We’ll have more details on that later.”

Channel 7 has set up a rapid antigen testing station for employees that have been unable to work from home.

“Seven’s number one priority is the health, safety and welfare of all staff and the community” the network said in a statement.

Barr, who was earlier vaccinated live on air, is fully jabbed, as well as Koch and Sunrise sports presenter Mark Beretta.

Bartholomew, who is pregnant with her second child, has had one dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

It comes after NSW recorded 1029 new Covid cases yesterday and three deaths, a new daily record in Australia.

Despite the spike, Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced eased restrictions for fully vaccinated residents from September 13 who live outside LGA hotspots.

Those include groups of five being able to gather outside together, while households can also gather outside for one hour of recreation in addition to the one hour of exercise.
