Actor Francis ‘Frankie’ Mossman, known for his roles in Shortland Street and Spartacus: Blood and Sand, has died aged 33.
The cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
On Friday, an image of the New Zealand-born actor as a child was shared on his Instagram account with the caption: “Who knew this boy would endure so much pain.”
It is unclear whether it was posted by Mossman, or by a family member acknowledging his death.
Since news of his death was made public, dozens have taken to social media to pay tribute to the “beautiful, generous soul”.
“Oh gosh. Sweet Frankie. I’m so sorry to hear this news,” Australian drag icon Courtney Act wrote.
Another person said he was “such a bright light in the community as well as being a talent”, while others remembered him as “ambitious”, “smart” and “sickeningly sweet”.
“His energy was contagious and I thought this boy is going to go places,” a former colleague wrote.
In a statement online, Queer Screen - organisers of Mardi Gras Film Festival - said it was “saddened” to hear of the actor’s death.
“Moving from Auckland to Sydney in 2012, Frankie was a well-known member of our LGBTIQ+ community, appearing in numerous NZ and Australian productions including the Sydney made gay web series, The Horizon.
“Frankie was a great friend of Queer Screen, starring in our MGFF16 trailer and was always an enthusiastic audience member at our festivals. Our sincere condolences to all his friends and family. May he Rest In Peace.”
