Prince William says royal family ‘not racist’ after bombshell Harry and Meghan interview - 7NEWS.com.au

Prince William says he has not yet spoken to his younger brother Harry but that the British royal family is not racist.

“I haven’t spoken to him yet but I will do,” William said on an engagement in east London, three days after Harry and Meghan’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

As seen in the video above, asked if the royal family was racist, William said: “We’re very much not a racist family.”

In the interview with Oprah, Meghan said a member of the royal family had asked what skin colour her new baby might have.

On Tuesday evening, Buckingham Palace released a statement on behalf of Queen Elizabeth in response to some of the claims made in the tell-all interview.

The Queen said the royal family were saddened by the challenging experiences of her grandson Prince Harry and his wife Meghan and promised to privately address the revelations aired during the interview.

One of those revelations was that Meghan had had suicidal thoughts during her pregnancy with baby Archie.

She said she was told it “wouldn’t be good for the institution” for her to seek professional help.

“Nothing was ever done,” Meghan said.

“It’s so important for people to remember that you have no idea what’s going on for someone behind closed doors, you have no idea.”

Queen’s response

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” Queen Elizabeth’s statement said.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.

“While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Prince Charles made no comment when asked by a reporter what he thought of the interview while visiting a COVID-19 vaccine pop-up clinic in London.
