As tensions continue to simmer between Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s two sons, sources have claimed there was one move by Prince Harry that upset his older brother the most.
Prince William supposedly felt Harry and Meghan Markle “blindsided” the Queen when they set up their Sussex Royal website amid preparations to step back as senior royals in January last year – with one insider telling The Sunday Times“that was it” for the 38-year-old future king.
While the brothers went for a long walk to clear the air after the Sandringham summit – when the Megxit deal was ironed out – they “did not part shores as friends”.
“What upset William the most was Harry and Meghan’s surprise launch of their ‘Sussex Royal’ website before the summit, which featured their blueprint wish of a part-time, commercial royal future,” The Times royal correspondent Roya Nikkhah wrote in a new profile of William.

The Queen later decreed that the Sussexes could no longer use “royal” in their ventures – to which the couple hit back in a statement on the site, writing that “there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy … over the use of the word ‘Royal’ overseas”.
Both “the content and that it’s still online is staggering”, one senior royal source told the publication.
Another, who is close to him, said, “That was it for William, he felt they’d blindsided the Queen in such an insulting and disrespectful way.”
The perceived slight was still at the “forefront” of William’s mind at the Sussexes’ final engagement as working royals, the source added, when the family’s frosty treatment of Meghan and Harry raised eyebrows around the globe.
A close friend told the publication that William “definitely feels the pressure now it’s all on him – his future looks different because of his brother’s choices, it’s not easy”.
While the two have spoken in the almost fortnight since Harry and Meghan’s bombshell interview with Oprah – during which Harry suggested that both his brother and father are “trapped” in the palace due to their responsibilities as heir to the throne – the conversations so far were “not productive”.
“I’m not trying to break news, but I did actually call (Meghan and Harry) to see how they were feeling, and it’s true, Harry has talked to his brother and he has talked to his father too,” Gayle King, the famous friend of both Oprah and Meghan, said on CBS This Morning.
“The word I was given was that those conversations were not productive. But they are glad that they have at least started a conversation.”

The mixed reception of Harry and Meghan’s interview in the UK – and the continued coverage of it as media outlets race to fact check the couple’s claims – has not helped ease tensions.
“There’s a lack of trust on both sides which makes moving forward very hard,” one source close to William told Vanity Fair.
“William is now worried that anything he says to his brother will be plastered over American TV.”
In the wake of Prince Philip’s most recent health scare – and his release from hospital after a monthlong stay – another family friend told the publication it was “very strange” that Meghan and Harry had done the interview at all.
“The family is focused on the Duke of Edinburgh and as far as they are concerned his health is paramount,” they said.
“It seems the Sussexes seem to want to keep fuelling this story at a time when the royals are trying to protect Prince Philip from the headlines. It’s a very strange way to go about trying to heal a family rift.”

Despite their differences, both Harry and William are said to want to mend what was described in 2019 as an “incredibly intimate” bond.
“Nobody apart from each other knows exactly – not even their father – what’s gone on in their heads and their heats for the last 20-odd years,” Princess Diana’s biographer Andrew Morton wrote in the November edition of Royals Monthly.
“They both experienced the loss of their mother. The only people that they could trust to talk to about it in a candid way was each of them.”
Asked by Oprah where the relationship stood now, Harry said that they were “on different paths” but “I love William to bits”.
“He’s my brother. We’ve been through hell together. I mean, we have a shared experience,” he added.
“The relationship is space at the moment, and time heals all things, hopefully.”
As for William, “once he got over the anger of how things happened, he was left with the absence of his brother”, an aide told The Times.
“They shared everything about their lives, an office, a foundation, meeting together most days and there was a lot of fun along the way. He’ll miss it forever,” they added.
“It’s still raw,” another friend of William’s said. “He’s very upset by what’s happened, though absolutely intent that he and Harry’s relationship will heal in time.”
