A judge in Oklahoma has added another chapter to the story of a big cat breeder known as Joe Exotic by ordering that the zoo he once operated be given to the woman who was portrayed as his most bitter enemy in the popular documentary series Tiger King.
Joseph Maldonado-Passage, former owner of the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park, was convicted last year of plotting to kill Carole Baskin, the owner of an animal sanctuary in Florida who campaigned for the closure of his zoo and accused him of abusing its tigers.
The Netflix documentary showed Maldonado-Passage shooting at dummies he named Carole. He is serving 22 years for killing five tigers and for a murder-for-hire plot, in which he was said to have tried to pay a hitman $US3,000 ($4,325).

He was also sued by Ms Baskin for copyright and trademark infringement, and she won a $US1m judgment against him. In an order this week Judge Scott Palk said the zoo’s land had been fraudulently transferred to Maldonado-Passage’s mother in an effort to avoid paying Ms Baskin and her organisation, the Big Cat Rescue Corporation. The zoo and its cabins and vehicles were now the property of Ms Baskin, Judge Palk said. He gave Maldonado-Passage’s former company 120 days to vacate the premises and to move all the animals there elsewhere.
Maldonado-Passage, who is in jail in Fort Worth, Texas, has appealed to President Trump for a pardon.
