The state’s top cop says there’s a chance missing Sydney conwoman Melissa Caddick is still alive after offering up a wild theory on breakfast radio.

“There’s always a chance she cut her foot off and is still alive, though it’s pretty fanciful,” Police Commissioner Mick Fuller told 2GB.

Ms Caddick’s Asics shoe and decomposed foot washed up on a remote beach on the NSW south coast last month, more than three months after she vanished from her eastern suburbs home.

No further remains have been found despite extensive searches, including combing more than 6000sq m in the ocean below the Dover Heights cliffs.
While Mr Fuller said he was “satisfied” Ms Caddick is dead, the case remains wide open.

“We have 68 victims of fraud and we feel sorry for them,” the police commissioner said.
“We’re still trying to recover funds and that investigation continues. But we haven’t closed this case.”

Doctors in revolt over COVID-19 vaccine payments and dose numbers have been told the situation will “settle down” as Australia ramps up its rollout.

GPs have complained low payments and smaller-than-expected dose numbers will not cover their costs as they administer the vaccine.

A group of GPs has threatened to withdraw from the vaccination rollout, some claiming they have received just 50 doses per week despite requesting 200 per day.

But Royal Australian College of General Practitioners president Dr Karen Price said the COVID-19 vaccine was particularly “complicated” given it was administered in two doses and required staff training.

She said many clinics planned their finances around receiving a high volume of doses but hoped the situation would “settle down” as the rollout progressed.

Sunrise host Samantha Armytage shocked viewers this morning after announcing she was quitting the morning show.

Armytage broke down in tears as she dropped the bombshell on air this morning.

There is already speculation about who will be brought in to replace her.

Here are some of the top contenders:

Monique Wright, host of Weekend Sunrise

– Edwina Bartholomew, Sunrise entertainment presenter

Natalie Barr, Sunrise news presenter

Sarah Harris, host of Studio 10

Armytage said her decision to leave the show was prompted by her desire to step out of the public eye.

“As many of you know, of my personal life the last six months have been very bittersweet, some bits have been very happy and some bits have been very, very sad and I want to step out of this public world for a while take some time and calm things down. Enjoy a bit of slow living and spend some time with my precious family and husband and Banjo," she said.

“I go out of this job at a time of my own choosing and on top of the ratings which not many people in television can say they do."

One of Australia’s most notorious serial killers, Kathleen Folbigg, has been brutally bashed by an inmate after being transferred to a new prison in northern NSW.

It’s been revealed that the attack on New Year’s Eve left Folbigg — convicted of killing four of her infant children — with a black eye and bruises, and her friends, who are protesting her innocence, fearing for her life.

The attack was detailed in a letter from Folbigg, seen by The Australian.

It took place shortly after the 53-year-old was transferred to the Clarence Correctional Centre in Grafton.

She says that she was assaulted on New Year’s Day: “Purple eye, few bruises, all because the women didn’t want ‘likes of me’ in their unit,” she wrote, referring to her ‘baby killer’ and ‘killer mum’ image.

Labor has pledged to lead a national push to close the gender pay gap, unveiling a series of new policy commitments.

Research shows Australian women working for companies that report to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA), earn, on average, $25,534 less than men every year and face a 20% gap in total wages.

In a bid to close this gap, Labor has pledged to do the following:

Legislate so companies with more than 250 employees will have to report their gender pay gap publicly.
Prohibit pay secrecy clauses and give employees the right to disclose their pay, if they want to.
Take action to address the gender pay gap in the Australian Public Service.
Strengthen the ability and capacity of the Fair Work Commission to order pay increases for workers in low paid, female dominated industries.

A teenager has been rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after several revellers were stabbed at an out-of-control party in Melbourne’s CBD.

Police first became aware of the situation when they were flagged down by a 19-year-old man about 2.20am on Monday after he had walked to Southern Cross train station with serious stab wounds.

The teen told police he had been at a party at a short term rental property in Spencer Street when a fight broke out and he had sustained several stab wounds.

A police spokeswoman said the man was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

She said while speaking to the victim, police officers became aware of several other victims, possibly up to five, who had self-presented to local hospitals also with stab wounds.

A group taking part in Clean Up Australia Day were forced to call the police after making an unsettling discovery in a Queensland park.

While picking up rubbish at Moorhen Flats in Brisbane's south-east on Sunday a group were shocked to stumble across a metal tin containing an assortment of weapons, including two handguns and a knife.

Brisbane City Councillor Fiona Cunningham posted a photo of the discovery to Facebook.

"We had a special visit from the Queensland Police Service after finding weapons," she wrote.

"So many bags of rubbish were also collected this morning including suitcases, window screens and broken furniture."
