Lady Gaga's dog walker says he is recovering "from a very close call with death", after being shot by kidnappers who took two of the pop-star's three dogs.
Key points:
- Ryan Fischer has made his first statement since being shot by kidnappers
- He was walking Lady Gaga's three dogs before being attacked
- Two of the three dogs were taken, but have now been returned
Ryan Fischer, in his first public comments since the incident last Wednesday evening in Hollywood, detailed his recollections from that night and thanked family, friends, first responders and Gaga, who has been in Italy to shoot a movie.
Mr Fischer was shot several times before kidnappers took two dogs, named Koji and Gustav.
Posting on Instagram, Mr Fischer said he promised the remaining dog, Asia, that he would try to save the other two.
"I cradled Asia as best I could, thanked her for all the incredible adventures we'd been on together, apologised that I couldn't defend her brothers, and then resolved that I would still try to save them ... and myself," he wrote.
The 30-year-old said he let out panicked screams as blood poured from his body from a gunshot wound.
LoadingHe thanked Gaga for her support while he was fighting for life in hospital.
"Your babies are back and the family is whole … we did it!" he said.
"You have shown so much support throughout this whole crisis to both me and my family.
"I look forward to the future and the moment when I get bombarded with kisses and licks (and maybe even an excitement pee?) from Asia, Koji, and Gustav."
Koji and Gustav were returned unharmed to police on Friday by an unidentified woman.
Gaga had offered a $500,000 reward for her dogs' return.
