Australian music legend Michael Gudinski has died aged 68.
Gudinski is a businessman mostly known for forming the hugely successful Australian record company Mushroom Records in 1972 at just 20-years-old.
He signed numerous Australian musicians including Kylie Minogue, Eskimo Joe and Skyhooks.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Gudinski AM overnight,” Mushroom Group said in a statement.
“The much-loved Australian music legend died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Melbourne, Australia.”
Gudinski is survived by his wife Sue and children Kate and Matt and two grandchildren Nine-Rose and Lulu.
“Michael’s legacy will live on through his family and the enormously successful Mushroom Group – an enduring embodiment of decades of passion and determination from an incredible man,” the statement read.
“The family respectfully ask for privacy in this incredibly difficult time and thank everyone for their support.”
In January, the Victorian government partnered with Gudinski’s Mushroom Group, to sign up a host of local talent for a week of COVID-safe concerts called the 2021 Sounds Better Together series.
Missy Higgins, Daryl Braithwaite, Something for Kate and Mia Wray were among the other acts performed in the series.
Gudinski was seen in public at the event in Mallacoota on January 30 introducing James Reyne.
