Former Channel Seven host Andrew O'Keefe 'not the aggressor' in alleged assault of partner, lawyer says - 9News

Former Channel Seven host Andrew O'Keefe is arguing he was not the "aggressor" in an incident with his partner which has landed him in court.

O'Keefe was charged with the common assault of partner Orly Lavee in the early hours of Sunday morning after the dispute at a Randwick home.

He was not at court as the case was mentioned at Waverley Local Court for the first time today, but his lawyer spoke outside.

"We've sought a short adjournment in circumstances where Mr O'Keefe has been unable to give instructions on such short notice," Claudette Chua said.

"I have had an opportunity to review the facts of matter and I will say this.

"Mr O'Keefe was certainly not the aggressor in this situation and Dr Lavee will have a lot to answer for."

Channel Seven had previously said The Chase host left the network before he was charged.

"Seven has had a 17-year relationship with Andrew across a number of programs, although he is no longer with the network," the broadcaster said in a statement.

"As this is a police matter before the courts, we cannot comment further."

The former lawyer and son of a former Supreme Court judge is also a founding member of domestic violence charity White Ribbon.

His case will return to court on February 18.
