Adam Sandler recreates Happy Gilmore swing to celebrate film’s 25th anniversary - NEWS.com.au

Adam Sandler has recreated Happy Gilmore’s unique golf swing to celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary.

The actor, 54, posted a video on Twitter showing him on a golf course.

“OK, it’s been 25 years since I’ve done this,” Sandler says in the clip. “Let’s see what happens. I’m scared.”

As he prepares to run up to swing at the golf ball, Sandler says: “Shooter McGavin, this is for you!”

The comedian proved he’s still got it as he smashed the ball down the fairway.

“I’m not lying to you, that went pretty well. You’re dead, Shooter,” Sandler says after the show before doing Happy Gilmore’s trademark laugh.

To celebrate the film’s anniversary, here are some things you might not know about the legendary 1996 comedy.

BOB BARKER WASN’T SANDLER’S FIRST CHOICE

Adam Sandler and writing partner Tim Herlihy initially wrote the role for US TV personality Ed McMahon, Sandler told the That Scene With Dan Patrick podcast.

“I remember being so young and cocky then that we would literally say when we sent it to Ed McMahon, we thought, ‘Of course he’s going to do it. It would be good for him. It’d be good for his career to be in a movie with me and get in a fistfight,’” Sandler recalled.

It turns out they were wrong. McMahon never even replied to the offer.

BOB BARKER WAS MEANT TO LOSE THE FIGHT

Sandler also revealed that the script originally called for Barker to lose the fight, but the Price Is Right host would only agree to appear in the film if he won the brawl.

And Barker took it seriously. He was living next door to Chuck Norris at the time and asked the action star to train him.

“We trained every night,” Sandler recalled Barker telling him. “He helps me with my punches and my kicks, but I have to win this fight,” Barker told the comedian.

GOLF PRO REGRETTED APPEARING IN THE FILM

Lee Trevino, who won six major championships and 29 PGA Tour events, made a cameo appearance in the movie.

But in 2013 he revealed he regretted saying yes to the film.

“If they were going to use all those foul words in there, I never would have done it,” he said.

Ouch.
