Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, to break silence in Oprah Winfrey interview - ABC News

Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, are set to break their silence in their first interview since stepping down from senior royal duties.

The duke and duchess, who have announced they are expecting a second child, will sit down with media mogul Oprah Winfrey next month.

CBS said the interview would be broadcast on March 7.

"Winfrey will speak with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, in a wide-ranging interview covering everything from stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work, to how she is handling life under intense public pressure," CBS said in a statement.

"Later, the two are joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family."

The duke and duchess married in 2018 in a ceremony that captured global attention.

But later, following disagreements with other family members and in the face of intense media attention, they stepped away from their official royal roles.

The couple moved to Southern California with their infant son Archie last year and have since signed a multi-year production deal with Netflix, a major step forward in their plan to work for themselves outside the royal family.

The couple's relationship with the British press soured in the period after their marriage and the couple have launched legal cases against several newspapers.

Last week, Meghan won a privacy claim against Associated Newspapers after its Mail on Sunday newspaper printed extracts of a letter she wrote to her father in August 2018.

Winfrey, one of America's richest and most influential women, ended her top-rated daily television talk show in 2011.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the planned interview.

A royal source said that because the duke and duchess were no longer working members of the royal family, any decisions they made about media commitments were up to them.

They were under no obligation to inform the royal household of such plans, the source said.
